Our first league match of the season took place against Warwickshire at Burford and the team got off to a great start winning all three of the morning foursomes matches in good style.
Sophie and Lydia had a tight match against Warwickshire’s top pairing but managed to close the match out 1up. In the following matches, juniors Sally Ayres and Millie Anderson were paired with the experienced Kate Evans and Annie Gowing respectively and both pairs played very well to secure solid wins.
Unfortunately the tables were turned in the afternoon. In the top matches Kate, Sophie and Lydia all started well - Kate was all square at the turn but her long-hitting opponent was playing excellent golf and went on to secure a 4&3 win. Sophie was 1up after nine but sadly had to retire with an injured knee.
Lydia’s front nine lead was pulled back by her opponent and they went all the way to the 18th with Warwickshire securing a 1up victory.
Millie played some excellent golf against a much lower handicap opponent who had four birdies in her round, including holing out from a greenside bunker to close the match - not much you can do when your opponent is having a day like that!
Sally and Warwickshire junior, Sophie, had a good match with Sophie getting the upper hand later in the back nine.
Congratulations to Annie who managed our only win of the afternoon against Warwickshire’s County Captain, Bobbi Waugh.
