Dear Parents,

Year 3 Swimming Lessons

We are delighted to announce that, due to National Curriculum requirements, the children in Year Three will all receive a swimming lesson each week, free of charge, for ten weeks. These lessons will begin on Monday 11thJanuary for 3Rand 3S then 3Aand3E will begin their sessions on Thursday 14thJanuary. Each child will work towards earning a National Curriculum swimming badge and certificate at the end of the course.

We will travel to and from Darrick Wood Swimming Pool by coach. We will leave school at one o’clock and return for the end of the school day. Please note that, occasionally, the coach may return late due to traffic.

On swimming days, the children should wear a warm coat. They should wear a white T-shirt instead of a shirt or tie under their jumper/cardigan or a Red Hill tracksuit as this speeds up changing time before and after swimming. Girls should wear socks instead of tights for the same reason.

Children should bring, for the lesson, a one piece swimming costume or trunks. Bikinis or long, baggy shorts are not permitted. Children should bring a towel and goggles may be worn if required. Long hair should be tied up and swimming hats are compulsory, due to the Pool’s health and safety regulations. These may be purchased from the office for £1 from December or from any sports shop.

Please label all clothing, towels and bags clearly. Children may bring a brush or a comb, but should not bring any creams or talcum powder. Any children with foot problems (e.g. verrucas), should bring a rubber sock.

Children will not be allowed to borrow any items from other children.

We may need parent helpers. If you are interested and have a current CRB/DBS (please check it does not run out during the course!) please contact your child’s teacher.

Yours sincerely

Miss Rivett

Head of Year Three
