Director of Technology and Personalized Learning
The team at the Verona Area School District is looking for a digital learning leader who is focused on instructional equity, development of a personalized learning ecosystem and professional collaboration. If selected, you will replace our retiring and beloved Director of Technology. The Verona Area School District is a PreK – 12 school district of approximately 5,500 pK-12 students located near Madison, WI. The student population demographics are: 30% free or reduced lunch, 30% students of color, 13% ELLs, and 7% students with disabilities.
If you are chosen to be our next Director of Technology and Personalized Learning, what can you expect? We are a large enough district to provide many digital learning tools and experiences for our students and staff. For example, this past year we went one-to-one (iPads) for all students K-12. However, we’re not yet big enough to have an extensive tech staffing, so you will wear a lot of hats. This includes slogging through the Erate application, tracking invoices and the drudgery of inventory for thousands of devices. There is, however, a full-time network administrator, a full-time network/telecommunications specialist, full-time assessment and data specialist, a shared administrative assistant, along
with excellent tech leadership and support at each building to assist you; all of whom you will supervise.
The more exciting and fulfilling aspects of this role include working with staff at the building level, designing and implementing staff development, working with the admin team and taking the lead in building out our personalized learning ecosystem. You will be in our schools a lot! You will be working very closely and collaboratively with our Superintendent and Directors of Curriculum, Bilingual Programs/Instructional Equity, Student Services. If you envision this position as one where you are hunkered down in an office monitoring network traffic, devising ways to limit / restrict digital access for students or staff (read command and control), or generally being inaccessible, then you may wish to consider applying elsewhere, as that is not what we are looking for.
If you want to be considered for this position, you must be able to show you have provided leadership that resulted in action and deliverables in the following areas:
· Equitable learning experiences for students, staff and parents;
· Personalized learning ecosystems on at least a building-wide level, preferably a district-wide level;
· Using the principles of Universal Design for Learning in a personalized learning ecosystem;
· Designing infrastructure to support digital learning;
· Effective communication, listening, collaboration and relationship building skills;
· Developing Digital curriculum;
· Designing and providing professional staff development;
· Strategic thinking and planning;
· Hardware and Software;
· Policy development;
· Use of data to drive decision / practice / policy making;
· Problem finding and solving; and
· Budgeting
Bilingual skills are highly valued but not a requirement for this position.
