Students will work in teams to complete some projects, which will require them to share responsibility. All assignments will require students to draw on prior knowledge of math, science and language arts.

Assessment/Evaluations/Required Student Products:

Drawings and projects will be graded based on industry standards. If necessary, students will be given more than one opportunity to complete assignments to meet industry requirements. Students are expected to keep an organized three-ring notebook and include all notes, handouts and graded assignments. The notebook may be checked and graded throughout the year. Students are required to keep a work log each class describing the information covered and the progress made. This will be collected every other week for grading. The student’s best works may be used to prepare a portfolio before graduation. Student assessment will be based on group work, individual completion of assignments, drawings, project presentations, written reports and tests of student’s knowledge of important concepts and demonstration of skills. Students are expected to turn in work on the date it is due. Late work will be accepted only with an excused absence according to the school district policy.

Strategies for Student Learning:

Attendance: It is important for the success of each student that they are in class daily. Knowledge and skill mastery can only be achieved when a student attends class for instruction and practice Work missed during excused absences should be madeup after school from 3:45-4:30 on Mondays through Thursdays. Please schedule with the instructor.

Safety guidelines: It is expected that all students will act in a safe and professional manner in the drafting lab. To ensure proper operation and maintenance of the equipment, it is imperative that students refrain from eating or drinking in class. Students are to be responsible for using the equipment for its intended use and according to the guidelines as explained by the instructor. Students will not be allowed to play computer games under any circumstances! Students must comply with the rules and policies stated in the Student and Parent Handbook. There is no place for horseplay in the lab. This could lead to accidents and injuries.

Tools/equipment: It is the responsibility of the student to keep up with and properly maintain tools. Tools are to be stored in the supply room. Students should notify the instructor if there are any defects in the equipment.

Academic Honesty:

Students will be required to do their OWN work and work to the best of their ability. Any student caught turning in someone else’s work or allowing another student to use their work will receive a zero for the assignment and face consequences as stated in the students handbook.

Required Readings:

Students will be required to complete reading and writing assignments for homework and during class. This may include reading the text, reference materials, current events or trade publications. This course will be incorporating The Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS). These standards define the knowledge and skills students should have within their K-12 education careers so that they will graduate high school able to succeed in entry-level, credit-bearing academic college courses and in workforce training programs. For more information about CCGPS please visit http://corestandards.org. The Common Core Standards providetext complexity grade bands and associated Lexile bands that are intended to put students on a college- and career-ready trajectory. These grade and Lexile bands are the basis for determining at what text complexity level students should be reading—and at which grades—to make sure they are ultimately prepared for the reading demands of college and careers. For more information about Lexile measurements please visit http://lexile.com.

Lost Book Policy:

Board Policy Descriptive Code: IFAD
