Role and purpose

CMV is a common virus that is a leading cause of hearing loss and a major cause of disability in children. It causes more problems than Down’s syndrome, Spina Bifida and Cystic Fibrosis and damages 2-3 babies every day in the UK.

CMV Action is a small and dynamic charity run by a group of Trustees who are firmly committed to limiting the devastating impact of this virus for those currently affected and for future generations. There is a lot of exciting research underway that could completely change the picture on prevention, treatment and management of CMV over the next decade. We’re here to make sure this happens.

We’re looking for somebody special who has the experience and skills to persuade grant awarding entities and other high profile partners that congenital CMV is an issue they need to support. Working with CMV Action is an exciting opportunity to shape the strategic direction of the organisation and deliver real change and impact for children and families. We have little hierarchy and bureaucracy so a good idea can go a long way very quickly. This is a great role if you want to develop leadership skills and learn about broader aspects of running a charity as well having the opportunity to develop your own income strategy and see it through.

The organisation has undergone rapid growth and development, from registering as a new charity with virtually no income 4 years ago to an income of 100k from community fundraising and events last financial year. We punch above our weight delivering a high impact awareness month, a support lifeline to families and engaging national policy leads and decision-makers. With the right income generator in our team there is so much that we could do. We’re very excited about where we might be in another four years time. This is a chance to be part of it from the start.
