Research Promotion July 1, 2007 thru June 30, 2008 Campaign Kick-Off

Welcome to those newer Members, and Hello Again to the Long-Term Members that may remember me! I have returned to serve in a very vital part of the workings of ASHRAE. This past August, I was sent to a National R.P. Training Seminar held in Las Vegas. There was so much information; it is difficult to simply share & explain it all. I do know that I am ready to hit this head-on, and serve this Chapter to my best ability. If anyone has a question about R.P., please feel free to contact me.

Region X is our “Mother Group” in the National picture. Our Region X Regional Vice Chair (RVC) person is Michael Burgess, he is in San Diego, and can be reached at: . His Executive Committee Vice Chair is Jim Matthews, and the National R.P. Chair is Randy Jones. At the H.Q., the Manager of R.P. is Patricia Adelmann, and can be reached at: . She can answer virtually any question, and help if there is any problem with your R.P. donation and/or recognition.

The National Research Promotion Mission is: To Improve the Quality of Life and To Answer Tomorrow’s Questions Through Research Today.

Donations are the basis for a continuation of several Technology Research Grants on Projects, Studies, and Standards for ASHRAE Handbooks, Special Publications, Education, Research Firms, and Universities. A new research strategic plan will guide ASHRAE Research for the next five years. The plan also outlines ASHRAE’s research goals for the next five years. It centers on sustainability, which is defined as “the concept of maximizing the effectiveness of resource use while minimizing the impact of that use on the environment.”

This year is a year filled with hope and anticipation: to raise $2,015,100! Last year the society goal was made at $1,863,819. Our Chapter Goal for last year was $4,200 with 91 Assigned Members (avg. of $46.15 per person), and was met and beat at $4,400 (from only 22 individual Donors) a Big Thank You to the Donors, and to Brenna Smith’s great efforts! This year’s Chapter Goal is $4,200, Our DRC Challenge is $5,460, but with only 58 donating members from the past 5 years, out of the 91 assigned members! We need to make this easier on everyone and band together, if everyone donates a little, we can meet our goals without tapping-out the few big donors, and know that you were a part of something important in our daily vocations.

I will be in touch with everyone in the near future, please be kind and generous …

Sincerely,

Kelli S. Newton

We currently have a checking account balance of $12,901.65, after our purchases ofa new projector for the meetings, accounting software and a new lap-top to track our finances. I would also like tomention that no reimbursements will be made without adequate receipts to verify money that was spent.

My goal this year to accurately record all transactions to and from the expense account make certain our financial account records are balanced properly. I'm looking to havean auditperformed at the end of our calendar year.
