Testing

As skaters progress, coaches will be introducing them to various tests to ensure that they are learning and are able to perform various skills and elements.

Please consult your coach for when your individual skater is ready for testing and which tests they will be taking.

Test Day Information

There are two types of test days:

  • Low Test Days include Preliminary, Junior Bronze and Senior Bronze Free Skate, Skating Skills and Dance tests.
  • High Test Days include Junior Silver, Senior Silver and Gold Free Skate, Skating Skills and Dance, Diamond Dances, Competitive Singles, Pairs and Dance tests and Introductory, Bronze, Silver and Gold Interpretive tests.

All clubs in the Alberta-NWT/Nunavut Section must follow the timelines, guidelines and procedures for test days as prescribed in the Skate Canada Rule Book and the Test Day Procedures Manual.

The Test Chair is a volunteer role that has many things to coordinate in order to provide test days so it is very important to adhere to test day deadlines for submissions and pulls.

The Test Day schedule is set 5 days prior to the beginning of test days and there cannot be any changes under any circumstance after this time.

Test days are scheduled to the minute so it is important to arrive 45 minutes before your scheduled test.

Please remember that only coaches or parents can pick up test results from the Test Chair once all the information has been properly recorded.

Tests must be paid for before test results can be picked up.

The test fee components include a Skate Canada Test Fee, facilities/ice costs and Officials’ expenses. Please note that Test Officials are not paid for their time but only for expenses that they incur to cover the test day.

TestFee $30 per test (payable by cash or cheque on test day to Calalta FSC)

Judges and Evaluators at competitions and test days are members of Skate Canada who volunteer their time, knowledge and expertise to our sport.

Please remember to always smile and show your appreciation to the many volunteers including Judges, Evaluators and Test Chairs who volunteer their time to provide test days.

Have a Question?

If you have a problem or question, please speak with your coach first. Questions regarding club policy should be directed towards the Board of Directors. Scheduling and programming questions can be directed to the Director of Skating (Scott Davis). All other questions can be answered by the Calalta office administrator by email or phone 403-245-2425.
