Aid to those in need. About 150 employees of Citibank Czech Republic were helping as part of the Global Community Day project.
Taking part in the Global Community Day, Citibank mobilized 45,000 employees in more than 47 countries all over the world. Volunteers in the Czech Republic worked in communities and organizations all over the country for a total of 1,200 hours.
On this year’s traditional volunteer day, Friday, October 22, Citibank got more than 45,000 volunteers from the ranks of its employees, their families and friends involved. Whatever their position at the bank, the employees helped with everyday activities in selected communities, entertained senior citizens, raked leaves, planted trees and also took an active part in the operation of individual organizations.
The Citibank employees, management included, thus took part in autumn cleaning in buildings and adjacent property and took part in educational and environmental projects focused on life quality improvement in selected communities.
“We are proud to have been able to mobilize such a number of people all over the world who volunteered to be part of the fifth year of Citi Global Community Day,” says Branislav Cehlárik, Public Affairs Officer for Czech and Slovak Republics. “In the Czech Republic this year´s event involved over 150 employees, which is the highest number in the history of Czech Citi. We have worked with a total of 16 non-profit organizations. For example, I worked as a lecturer at a seminar for high school students, who participate in financial education programmes by Junior Achievent,” adds Cehlárik.
This year the Citi volunteers visited Čmelák - Společnost Přátel Přírody inLiberec, the Arkádie protected workshop inTeplice, the Kociánka special needs school inBrno, Domov Sue Ryder in Prague providing care for senior citizens, Středisko Dvoreček inOstrava, Dílny Tvořivosti O. S. in Prague, the D.R.A.K. Civic Association inLiberec, Domov pro Seniory Elišky Purkyňové inPrague, the Klokánek project in Prague, Bystřice pod Hostýnem Children’s Home, Izap Slunečnice in Zlín. In the immediate vicinity of the new bank's headquarters in Prague 13 volunteers helped the Federation of Parents and Friends of Hearing Impaired, in the home for elderly Lukáš, low-treshold club Jednatrojka and Stodůlky Deaconry. In partnership with Junior Achievement an educational seminar for high school students was held. Volunteers worked for a total of 1,200 hours.
“In keeping with our social responsibility strategy this is not to be considered a one-off event but rather the culmination of a long-term plan”, Branislav Cehlárik explains. “The volunteer day enables us to find an ideal way to collaborate with organizations, which is something we wish to foster on a long-term basis and to help them to carry out their activities” Cehlárik adds.
