THE NATIONAL WILD TURKEY FEDERATION

What The Federation Is:

The National Wild Turkey Federation is a national, non profit, educational conservation organization comprised of state and local affiliates working for the restoration and wise management of the American Wild Turkey and other valuable natural resources. These dedicated groups are combined into one strong , enlightened organization for the purpose of improving the quality of the environment and conserving wildlife. The Federation was organized in 1973 by persons who wanted to lead the way in managing and restoring, rather than exploiting, the wild turkey and other wildlife resources. NWTF Headquarters is located in Edgefield, SC.

What The Federation Does:

The National Wild Turkey Federation supports scientific wildlife management on public, private, and corporate lands. lt also supports traditional American sport hunting and every citizen's right to enjoy clean air and water and an aesthetically pleasing outdoor environment.

Since it's inception in 1973, the NWTF has been the primary force in the re-establishment of the American Wild Turkey as the leading game bird in the United States. Prior to the 1950's, the Wild Turkey population had dwindled to less than 500,000 in its native range of 35 states. Today, through the NWTF's efforts, the Wild Turkey population is over 5,000,000, and wild turkeys inhabit every state except Alaska.

The NWTF publishes Turkey Call magazine bimonthly (6 issues a year) and The Caller newsletter (4 issues a year). Both are mailed to every member. The contents include statebystate information on wild turkey management; feature articles on turkey calling and hunting; interviews; news from national headquarters, state chapters and the NWTF fundraising banquet program; letters to the editor, and editorial statements on timely subjects.
