JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Youth Pastor (full-time position)
REPORTS:
- Directly to the Senior Pastor
- Indirectly to the Elder Board
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Personal Life
- Personal commitment to the Lordship of Jesus Christ with a desire for ongoing personal spiritual growth
- Church Life
- Endorse and support the Covenant, Affirmation of Faith, Constitution, and By-Laws of First Baptist Church
- Evidence a commitment to the Mission, Vision and Core Values of First Baptist Church
- Willing to become a member of First Baptist Church
- Education
- Required
- Baccalaureate degree
- Bible, theology, and/or ministry training
- Preferred
- Master of Arts in Christian Education, Youth Ministry, or equivalent (i.e. 40-50 Master’s credits in ministry)
- Ministry Life
- Three years of ministry experience desired, preferably with emphasis in youth ministry
- Passion for reaching lost youth with the gospel
- Passion for equipping disciples within the youth ministry
- Proven ability to communicate and work effectively with youth and adults
- Proven ability to design, implement, organize, and lead youth ministry programs
- Proven ability to teach youth to understand and apply the Bible in their lives
- Proven ability to train and equip adult youth ministry leaders and parents
DUTIES:
- Personal Development
- Invest significant time in prayer and personal Bible study
- Stay current with ministry trends by reading books and periodicals and/or attending approved conferences
- Meet regularly with the Senior Pastor for supervision and mutual development
- Leadership Involvement
- Become a visible part of the pastoral team through involvement in worship, preaching as requested, and teaching
- Participate as an Elder on the Elder Board
- Participate in Church Council meetings and related team meetings as required
- Ministry Expectations
- Organize, equip, and lead a youth ministry team of parents/adults to support and facilitate youth activities and programs that reach the lost and grow the believer
- Develop and oversee opportunities for students to discover and grow in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
- Plan regular mission trips and service opportunities for the youth of the church
- Provide counseling and spiritual direction to youth as needed
- Provide pastoral care and hospital visitation to youth and their families
- Keep regular office hours and be available to meet with students and parents
- Visibly support the youth by attending student activities and events (e.g. concerts, athletics)
- Confront any problems or conflicts within the youth ministry, seeking to reconcile relationships and promote unity
- Develop relationships with area school officials and other area youth leaders
- Other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor
