SYFA Discipline Policy Discipline shall be progressive for coaches who violate the Shakopee Coaches Code of Conduct policy. Progressive discipline will take into account violations of the code of conduct; complaints from other coaches, parents and officials; and disciplinary actions from past seasons. Specifically, if a coach has been ejected from a game, regardless of which season the ejection occurred, the next offense shall pick up on the next step in the progressive discipline sequence. In addition, while this policy includes progressive steps for disciplinary measures, the Shakopee Youth Football Association (SYFA) Board can use its discretion to immediately suspend a coach if the situation is deemed serious enough by the Board. This means that an offending coach does not have to be given a verbal or written warning before he is suspended.
1st offense– minimum, verbal warning
2nd offense–minimum, written warning
3rd offense – 1 (or more) game suspension. The number of games suspended shall be decided by Board. A coach who is ejected from a game (in house or travel) will not be allowed to be associated with their team during the full term of the suspension: this includes attending or communicating at games, practices and/or other team functions until the Board re-instates the coach.
4thoffense – Multiple (at least 2) game suspension. A Board discussion shall take place about potentially removing SYFA coaching privileges of identified offender.
Any coach who receives any form of discipline will be required to meet with the BoardOfficers and the Officials/Coaches Coordinatorfor a hearing to determine what happened and how it will be corrected.
Any ejection from a game will follow with an immediate 1 game suspension (this includes both travel and in-house coaches) at a minimum. NOTE: Travel Football Coaches: Any discipline issued by the SWMFL will be issued independently from the SYFA Board. SYFA reserves the right to discipline coaches separately from the SWMFL. Such discipline may be issued in addition to the SWMFL discipline and may be enforced concurrently.
All incidents that are brought forward to the Board by parents, coaches, game referees or other association representatives shall be investigated by the Officials/Coaches Coordinator and other selected Board Officers. The information that is gathered during the investigation, along with the recommended discipline for the incident, will then be presented to the Board Officers. Any evidence of coach’s misconduct (of code of Conduct policy) shall be dealt with by the Board and follow the progressive discipline policy.
NOTE: Head coaches will be held accountable for their assistant coaches and could receive same or similar discipline, if steps are not taken by head coach to immediately de-escalate situation.
