A FANTASTIC WORKOUT & A GREAT STRESS RELIEVER!

Tired of backaches, sore shoulders, general stiffness! Put that spring back into your step!

Benefits:

prevents injury; improves alignment, balance, posture, flexibility, co-ordination, and circulation; tones and elongates; develops core strength; engages the body and mind, increasing one’s powers of concentration.

Our approach to dance educationis unique!

The Ballet Espressivo School, founded in 2006, offers courses in classical ballet, modern dance, dance improvisation, ballet floor-barre (stretching and strengthening), and our latest addition – performance opportunities for its students, led by its instructor Donna Greenberg, who has over twenty-five years of teaching experience, and a background in both music and a variety of dance-styles. Throughout the lessons, thorough and constructive feedback is given, feedback needed for students to progress, to avoid injuries, and to prevent the development of bad habits. The student-teacher ratio is kept low in order to maximize time for addressing individual student needs. Much emphasis is placed on not only correctness of form but also musicality, line, and artistry. The courses are designed for adults, for those seeking recreation, or wishing to improve bodily alignment and overall physical condition, or those aspiring to a more serious study of dance. The Ballet Espressivo School has an international reputation, attracting students from Toronto and its environs and even abroad.

Modern Dance & Improvisation

No previous dance experience is needed! An eclectic approach to modern dance.

Our approach to Modern Dance is to instruct the student in a freer and less structured type of dance that focuses on movement from the torso, an expanded movement vocabulary, and individual expression. All classes include barre work, centre work, and the learning of short choreographic pieces designed to get the student moving fluidly, confidently, and musically, as well as a short section of dance improvisation to allow students to explore, experiment, and create movements based on what they have learned during the lesson. This is a fun way for the students to liberate themselves as dancers and develop personal expression with a strong emphasis on musicality.

Modern Dance & Improvisation is now a mixed level class open to both absolute beginners through to more advanced students. Technical levels will be adjusted to suit the level of the individual student. This is a great opportunity for students to learn from each other.

Students will be working on a piece of choreography by Donna Greenberg, to be presented at our second student recital on Sunday December 13, 2015 (times TBA) and at the U of T Dance Festival in March (see performance opportunities).

Thursday evenings from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. September 17, 2015 – December 17, 2015 14 classes for $ 253.12 (HST included)

New Class: Performance Opportunities for Ballet Espressivo Students

Due to the great success of our first student recital in Spring 2015 and student performance at the University of Toronto Festival of Dance at Hart House Theatre on March 2015 and at Youth Day Toronto, August 2015, Ballet Espressivo will be presenting our second student recital on Sunday December 13, 2015 (times TBA). Again, students will be performing works choreographed by Donna Greenberg at the University of Toronto Festival of Dance 2016 at Hart House Theatre on the last weekend of March 2016.

This is a wonderful opportunity for Ballet Espressivo students to participate in public dance performances in a more intimate setting as well as in an established theatre and dance festival.

Students will learn how to study, prepare, and perform a choreographic work. They will have the opportunity to work on various technical and aesthetic aspects as well as develop their individual expressive abilities within the framework of an ensemble piece.
