The Recreation Commission held its regular scheduled meeting on Monday August 1, 2016, at the Reed Community Building, 33A Summer St., and Kingston, MA 02364.

Members Present: Andy Davis, Melissa Bateman, and Brian Whidden, Kathy LaNatra

Not Present: Noelle Ballinger

Also Present: Susan Woodworth, Debbie Doherty

Chairperson, Melissa Bateman called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM

Motion

Motion made by Brian Whidden, second by Kathy LaNatra to approve meeting minutes from October, 2016.

Open Forum

None

Susan updated Commission on turf management, and irrigation. Complex will be winterized after the Cold Turkey ball game. Sign will be installed after Thanksgiving. The press booth repairs are all set. Netting at complex installed by KYSO, but kids climbing on it, has become an issue.

Susan updated commission on the status of the geese problem. The border collies seemed to work with the issue.

Susan stated the press booth is being worked on; rules and regulations sign, and basketball rules sign will be installed in the next week or so.

Susan discussed a tree planting at the complex in honor of Jack Riordan.

Brian Whidden asks about dedicating and naming the meeting room to Paul Bettle, for all of his help over the years.

Motion made by Brian Whidden, second by Andy Davis, to name the Pottle street meeting room after Paul J. Bettle.

Melissa Bateman discussed, the possibility of the department purchasing an Ipad to use for taking pictures of the programs.

Motion made by Kathy LaNatra, second by Andy Davis, to purchase an Ipad for the Recreation Dept.

Susan discussed that there is $1900.00 left in the budget for movie nights. Commission decided to have a movie night this winter at the Reed Building. The date is Feb. 11th and the movie will be Balto.

Susan updated the Commission on the status of the Reed property repairs. The front entrance steps have been painted and repaired.

Susan discussed the Grays beach projects. She is meeting with local business to support building the concession and pavilion. Susan also stated the winterization is complete in the concession stand.

Susan discussed the budget and Capital planning. FY18 will be the Capt. Bailey playground fence, and the Govoni field rebuild.

FY17 CPC projects are the Opachinski basketball court fence, Gray’s beach playground fence.

Motion made by Brian Whidden, second by Andy Davis, to apply to CPC for the Grays beach playground fence?

Susan discussed and reviewed the Emergency notification and procedure forms.

Susan discussed the possibility of having AED machines in all the buildings sometime in the future.

Agenda items for next meeting. Discuss the tin ceiling tiles, and the concession building.

Next Meeting date is Monday December 5, 2016, at 7:00 PM.
