MENGEL’S ‘MINDERS: 11/22/10

1.GREAT JOB THIS FALL: Congratulations to all marching band members for a terrific 2010 fall season. The show kept getting better and better each week and culminated with a fantastic performance at the Hershey championships last weekend. We came in 1st place in our division at four cavalcades this year and achieved our goal of qualifying for the Open Division at championships this year. There are lots of people to recognize and thank for all of their hard work supporting us throughout the season and we’ll do that at the upcoming band banquet.

2.THANKSGIVING DAY GAME: Our last function of the season is the annual Thanksgiving Day football game. This year the game is home at OJR. This is a BIG game and is, arguably, the one performance of the year where the MOST people at one time will see you so we need to be at our best. Several band members travel each year with their families and need to miss the game, so it is up to the rest of you to put on the best show we can that day. Reporting time is 8:30am and we should be finished around 12:15. Dress warmly!

3.BAND BANQUET: Our annual marching band banquet will be held next Thursday, December 2nd, 2010 in the high school cafeteria and auditorium at 6:00pm. All marching band families are invited and encouraged to attend. The banquet is a FUN night with great food, so I hope to see all of you there! Attached here is a letter from your band president, Anthony Guidotti, with more information on the banquet, including what everyone is asked to bring that night.

4.NEXT SPRING TRIP PAYMENT: The next payment (payment #2) for the band’s spring trip to Williamsburg is due on or before January 14, 2011. The amount of the payment is $150.00 and checks are made payable to: “OJR MPO Band Chapter”.

5.HOLIDAY CONCERT: Our annual OJR Holiday Concert is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 21st at 7pm in the high school auditorium and will feature the concert band, jazz band, chorus, 7-Ups, and orchestra. Hope to see you there. (Reminder – Dress: Guys -Dark Slacks, White Dress Shirt, Tie / Gals: Dark Dress Outfit, Etc.)

6.DISTRICT BAND AUDITIONS: District band auditions will take place on Saturday, Dec. 11th at Garnet Valley High School for anyone interested. We will leave OJR around 7am that day and return sometime between 1pm and 3pm. District band includes the best student musicians from all schools in Chester, Philadelphia, and Delaware counties and is an AWESOME opportunity and experience. Everyone is encouraged to audition.

7.PRIVATE LESSONS: Now that marching band is over it is a great time to think about starting private lessons on your instrument. Private lessons absolutely make the difference when it comes to enhancing your musical skill level, qualifying for solos and other opportunities, etc. There are many good teachers in our area to take advantage of. Attached here is a current list of private lesson teachers in our area. Feel free to contact any of them to talk about available options.

BAND BANQUET INFORMATION

~from your band president~

To the Pride of OJR,

First, CONGRATULATIONS with such an amazing season! We have accomplished so much this year and I am so proud of all of you. Now that the season is coming to an end, it’s time to kick off our annual band banquet. This is our time to think back on all the great memories of this season. It is time to recognize the individuals that made our season take flight, a time to relax, to have fun, and of course eat great food!

The band Banquet will be held on December 2, 2010 at 6:00 PM in the high school cafeteria. Following our feast, the entertainment will shift to the auditorium to watch the Championship video as well as, recognize all staff, volunteers, and marching unit members, and present the senior awards. (There are a lot of seniors this year so there will be a limit of one gift per senior…and please keep them appropriate! Finally, all gifts must be approved my Mr. Mengel prior to the banquet!)

Each band member is responsible for contributing to the dinner. In order to ensure that there is enough food, there is an attachment to this letter indicating what each section should bring. Also, please let either Mr. Mengel or myself know if you will not be attending the banquet by Thanksgiving break.

Once again, great job and thank you to all family member’s support, staff, and band members for a fantastic season! I knew we could reach our goal!

Sincerely,

Anthony Guidotti

Band President
