IPDVSA Video Server Quickstart Guide

Before You Begin:

Make sure you are using a router and that you’re at a computer connected

to the exact same router as the IPDVSA.

The IPDVSAW must first connect hard-wired before the wireless can be setup.

  1. Insert the CD, and locate and run the IPCameraSearcher program. This program will determine the IP address of your IP video server. Run the search/scan tool and it should find an IP server connected and the IP address it finds should be 192.168.1.126. This is the IP address of the video server and it will be needed for port forwarding.
  2. You will need to port forward. Port 80 is the one and only port that needs to be forwarded.

To forward this port, you need to access your router’s administration interface. You may need to refer to your owner’s manual for instructions how to do this. There is a good resource online on how to forward ports at:

Once you go to portward.com, remember to skip the advertisement. Also, when prompted to select a program, simply select the “Default Guide” for the router which will be a link in the first couple paragraphs.

Both your router’s user manual and the above resource should show you how to forward ports. You will need to forward port 80. You need to forward this port to the IP address of the video server you deduced from step 1. Once you see example of this in the above link or your router’s user manual, it will make more sense.

  1. Open up an Internet Explorer window, and enter in the address bar and hit enter. On this page you will see the IP address of your computer as the outside world sees it. This is your computer’s unique identifier on the internet. Write down whatever IP address it displays.
  2. Now, you need to adjust your Internet Explorer security settings. On the Menu bar, go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Security Tab -> Custom Level Button. From this window, you need to make sure that the “Download Unsigned ActiveX Controls” bullet is set to “Prompt”. Make the change if necessary, click OK to commit the change, then OK again to exit out of the Internet Options window.Close all Internet Explorer windows. Your interface may be a bit different, but you MUST be able to install Unsigned ActiveX controls.
  3. Open up an Internet Explorer window. In the address bar, enter in where xx.xx.xx.xx is the IP address you wrote down from step 3 and hit enter.
  4. You may be given a security warning asking you if you wish to install the Unknown or Unsigned ActiveX control. Click yes or ok to proceed with the ActiveX control installation. After the control is installed, close all Internet Explorer windows.
  5. Repeat step 5, but leave IE open. You should be prompted for a username and password. Use username: admin, and password: <blank> (as in leave the password blank). After you enter in the login info, the program should begin loading. You will again be prompted for login information.
  6. For the ip address, enter the same ip address you just entered in the address bar, and use port 80 for the port. Use the same username and password from step 7.
  7. Once the information is correct, you will be able to login and view your camera

Notes Regarding Using the Server’s Wireless Functionality

  • The server must be in an area covered with Wifi that you have administrative access to for the wireless function to work
  • You will have to connect it hard-wired FIRST before you can connect it wirelessly. This is because you must specify the SSID (network id) you want it to connect to and the password/key required (if any). You must also specify the IP address you want it to use or put it on DHCP. Remember you must first get it working hard-wired before it will work on wireless.
  • Please note that for initial setup the IP server needs the IP address 192.168.1.126. You can change this to DHCP or a different static value, but it will need to be able to obtain the IP address 192.168.1.126 for initial setup to take place. If your router issues IP addresses in the 192.168.0.xxx range, you will have to change it to issues IP addresses in the 192.168.1.xxx range or update the IP address in the IP camera searcher program to 192.168.0.126. Both of these will resolve the issue.
  • Be very careful moving the antenna. Moving it wrong can break it.
  • Once successfully connect via Wifi, you will be able to view your camera from any computer connected to the internet (wired or wireless) using the port forwarding described above.

Other Notes

  • You will need to get the IP server working using the Web Browser BEFORE using the Blue Iris Software. Only use the Blue Iris software AFTER it is already working on Internet Explorer.
  • If using the Blue Iris software, it will consider the IP server an “Acumen Speed Dome”. That is choice you will need to use when selecting the type of network camera
