Security Control Specialist

Elmore County has an opening for a full-time Security Control Specialist position to operate the jail’s electronic security system using a control console allowing movement in and around the facility; monitors all jail radio traffic and makes appropriate radio transmissions, and performs related duties as required. This position pays $11/hour with great benefits and is located in the Correctional Facility or jail at the Elmore County Sheriff’s Offices in Mountain Home, Idaho. The position will work Monday through Friday, day or swing shift. No weekends or holidays required.

The work is performed under the direction of the Jail Commander. Considerable independence is granted to the employee, with unusual, unique or complex issues referred to the supervisor. The work environment may subject the employee to potential personal danger.

Job Description:

·  Operates and monitors telephone and radio communications, security cameras, movement throughout the facility, and visually monitors staff, inmates and visitors in the facility and on the perimeter;

·  Acts as the Incident Command Center during emergencies;

·  Reports potential safety hazards, security threats, disturbances, and irregularities;

·  Provides notification of radio, alarm or technical equipment malfunctions; may perform preventive or minor maintenance on equipment

·  Make sound and reasonable decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations and established procedures;

·  Ability to quickly and objectively analyze changing situations and take appropriate actions;

·  Ability to read people and potentially adverse or unsafe situations and react appropriately;

·  Ability to maintain a high level of emotional stability while dealing with distressing events;

·  Ability to multi-task in a stressful and fast-paced environment with the skill to react quickly and calmly to events in and around the facility while operating a personal computer, security control system, and receiving/transmitting radio communications; and,

·  Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Experience, Training and Requirements:

·  High school diploma or GED equivalency;

·  Must be at least 18 years of age;

·  Previous security experience preferred; Working knowledge and understanding of security practices and procedures preferred;

·  Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work;

·  Successfully pass a complete background check and polygraph test prior to hire; and,

·  Employee is exposed to a variety of potentially dangerous situations and people.
