Cambridge & North Dumfries Community Awards

Nominees Announced

The Cambridge Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Cambridge & North Dumfries Community Awards. "It’s important to acknowledge, recognize and appreciate in a tangible way the efforts that all the volunteers and the Not-for-Profits, Charities and Services Groups who make our city and town such a great place and such a great community.

We are pleased that 48 organizations/individuals were nominated in the inaugural year of the awards.

We will not only be celebrating the achievements of individuals, organizations and groups, we will be paying a SPECIAL tribute to Councillor Jane Brewer at the 2nd Annual Cambridge & North Dumfries Community Awards. Jane has been a strong supporter of ALL of our community groups and organizations; she has been out supporting each and every one of them at one time or another during her years in Municipal Government. The Chamber is proud to honour and celebrate with Jane on this very special evening, don't miss it.

The Award Categories are:

Best Corporate/Non-profit Partnership: The award recognizes a partnership that was formed with a corporation that went beyond mere donations in your corporate-non-profit/service club efforts.

The nominees are:

·  Alzheimer Society /Chartwell and Your Neighbourhood Credit Union

·  Cambridge Canada Day Parade /Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada

·  Cambridge Memorial Hospital Foundation Best Bites/African Lion Safari

·  Community Support Connections - Meals on Wheels and More/Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada

·  Rotary Club of Cambridge Preston-Hespeler/Oktoberfest Inc.

Best Marketing Campaign: The award recognizes an outstanding promotional marketing campaign that generated awareness of your organization and saw positive results. The campaign may have been executed through print, email, web, mobile, social media or a combination.

The nominees are:

·  Alzheimer Society Waterloo-Wellington- Coffee Break Campaign

·  Cambridge Rotary Ribfest 2014

·  Community Living Cambridge Anniversary Campaign

·  Drayton Entertainment 2014 Season

·  YWCA of Cambridge Walk A Mile

Event of the Year Campaign: This award recognizes an event or program that was implemented by your organization, which made a huge or important impact that increased awareness and or boosted the bottom line.

The nominees are:

·  Alzheimer Society Waterloo-Wellington- Coffee Break Kickoff

·  Cambridge Highland Games

·  Cambridge Rotary Oktoberfest

·  Cambridge Rotary Ribfest 2014

·  Cambridge Self Help Food Bank - Brown Bag Lunch

·  Tim Horton’s Holiday Inn Dr. Camp Day Breakfast

·  YWCA of Cambridge Walk A Mile

Employee of the Year: The Employee of the Year Award acknowledges outstanding service of an employee who has consistently excelled in his/her work. The individual has consistently and clearly surpass performance requirements of his/her position, has made significant contributions toward reaching the organizations goals and objectives, has demonstrate dedication to the organization, and has exhibited a high level of leadership and cooperation in working with other employees, volunteers and the general public.

The nominees are:

·  Anne Tinker - Cambridge Shelter

·  Bonnie Dion - Cambridge Food Bank

·  Karen Griffith - Cancer Society

·  Melissa Campion - Alzheimer Society

·  Sue Lockett - Cambridge Memorial Hospital Foundation

Volunteer of the Year: Nominees must have been involved in volunteering for the equivalent of at least 100 hours over a 12-month period. Nominees must have volunteered for a legitimate not-for-profit organization, service club or community group. The communities of Cambridge/Township of North Dumfries or Waterloo Region must be significant beneficiaries of the nominee's volunteer work.

The nominees are:

·  Jeanette Berenz- Galt Horticultural Society

·  Mark Rozad- Rotary Club of Cambridge Sunrise

·  Patricia Cawley Reid- Nutrition for Learning

·  Peter Black- Preston Scout House Band

Youth Volunteer of the Year: Nominees must be 18 years or younger. Nominees must have volunteered for a legitimate not-for-profit organization, service group or community group. The communities of Cambridge/Township of North Dumfries or Waterloo Region must be significant beneficiaries of the nominee's volunteer work.

·  Hepzibah Jayashanker- Galt Collegiate Institute

·  Meaghan Campbell- Monsignor Doyle Secondary School

·  Monica Boctor- Glenview Park Secondary School

·  Rachel Baker- Preston Secondary School

Service Club of Year: This award recognizes the commitment and activities of service clubs to the Cambridge and Township of North Dumfries communities. The Award will be presented to the Service club who, through the contribution made by its members resulted in the betterment of our communities or people’s lives who live in our communities.

The nominees are:

·  Hespeler Optimist Club

·  Kinsmen Club of Cambridge (Preston)

·  Kiwanis Club of Cambridge

·  Optimist Club of West Cambridge

·  Rotary Club of Cambridge (Preston-Hespeler)

·  Rotary Club of Cambridge Sunrise


Not-For-Profit - Under 10 Employees: This award recognizes a not-for-profit organization or service club that provides outstanding programs, services, events or campaigns that support the needs of the community and its residents.

The nominees are:

·  Active Cambridge

·  Galt Horticulture Society

·  Social Planning Council of Cambridge and North Dumfries


Not-For-Profit - 11 Employees and Over: This award recognizes a not-for-profit organization or service club that provides outstanding programs, services, events or campaigns that support the needs of the community and its residents.

The nominees are:

·  Alzheimer Society

·  Cambridge Self Help Food Bank

·  Community Living Cambridge

·  Drayton Entertainment

·  Cambridge & District Humane Society

·  John Howard Society of Waterloo-Wellington

·  Langs

·  YMCAs of Cambridge & Kitchener-Waterloo

Lifetime Achievement Award:
Awarded to an individual who, over the past 25 years or more, has made significant contributions to the community and has improved the quality of life for citizens or whose accomplishments have brought recognition to the Waterloo Region.

The recipient of the Lifetime Achievement award will be announced during the evening of the awards on November 25th
