Office of State Fire Marshal 90th anniversary celebration

This year marks the 90th anniversary of the Oregon Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM) and an open house is planned in celebration of this milestone and the history of OSFM. The open house is planned for Tuesday, October 23, 2007 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the OSFM office building, 4760 Portland Road NE, Salem, Oregon. All members of the Oregon fire service and general public are invited. Light refreshments will be served.

Appendix P

Representatives of the Oregon Fire Safety Coalition, the Oregon Fire Marshals Association and the Office of State Fire Marshal continue to work with the Oregon Homebuilders Association to unify different viewpoints and develop mutually acceptable criteria to adopt Appendix P Sprinkling into the 2008 Oregon Residential Specialty Code. Adoption of Appendix P would give communities the option of requiring fire sprinklers in new home construction, and would apply only when specifically adopted by the local authority having jurisdiction. Negotiation results are expected to be presented at the December 11, 2007 Residential Structures Board meeting in Salem.
