SUBJECT: PER – “Walk A Mile In My Boots” Program

Purpose. To provide information on participation in the “Walk A Mile In My Boots” Exchange Program

Expiration Date. September, 30 2006

Background. NRCS is partnering with the National Association of Conservation Districts to implement the “Walk A Mile In My Boots” Program. This is a work-exchange program developed by the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and the Fish and Wildlife Service.

The exchanges will provide opportunities for producers and NRCS employees to learn more about each other’s lifestyles, issues, and operations. During exchanges, ranchers and farmers will visit RI NRCS office, for a period of up to 2 weeks where they will shadow a selected NRCS employee. Ranchers and farmers will participate in the program as Earth Team volunteers and will be entitled to tort liability, workers’ compensation, and other benefits as outlined in the General Manual.

To complete the exchange, selected NRCS employees will visit agricultural operations and shadow producers as they complete their daily activities. NRCS employees must apply for selection as a program participant by completing the attached application form and submitting it through channels for approval by their State Conservationist. NRCS employee participation in the exchange program will be considered a work detail, and they will be asked to submit an evaluation form upon completion.

After obtaining the necessary approvals to participate in the “Walk A Mile In My Boots” Program from their immediate supervisor, the State administrative officer and State Conservationist, NRCS employees should forward the completed and signed application to:
