What is your organization’s mission statement?
"Creating Communication Networks To Promote Diversity and move Toward
the Elimination of Discrimination and Prejudice."
Description of organization’s primary activities and/or events (60 words or less):
The Scottsdale Human Relations Commission will advocate and promote all dimensions of diversity. The Scottsdale Human Relations Commission will act as an advisory body to the mayor, city council and staff and to make recommendations on ways to encourage mutual respect and understanding among people, to discourage prejudice and discrimination, and to work towards cultural awareness and unity. The commission may also make recommendations as to special events which will further its purpose. (Ordinance No. 3315, § 1,5-15-00; Ordinance No 3357, §1, 11-6-00)

What is the process to become a board member with your organization?
Apply with the City Clerk's Office. Applications are available online at: Applications may be completed online, printed, signed and returned to the Clerk's Office. When vacancies are available, the Council will consider all applications received, nominate selected applicants for interviews, interview nominees at a Council meeting and then vote to appoint members to fill the vacancies. Appointees are required to sign a loyalty oath, required ethics forms and complete a two-hour Ethics Training course within 90 days of appointment.
