EXPLANATION OF REGISTRATION FEES
The $30.00 registration processing fee is accepted by Burlington Township and is deposited in its general fund for future use as a means of paying for a variety of the Township’s expenses. In 2011, Burlington Township began assessing additional fees for some travel programs due to their ever-increasing costs, namely: Babe Ruth Baseball, Football, South Jersey Soccer, and Basketball. Senior Babe Ruth and High School Age Soccer will also incur additional fees. The money generated from these programs’ fees will be deposited in a dedicated rider account and allocated strictly and specifically for the payment of the officials’ fees associated with those programs, as opposed to being paid from the annual operating budget of the Recreation Commission. For example: If paying a $60 fee for a particular travel program, $30 will go into the general fund and $30 will be placed in the rider account.
WINTER PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS
ADULT PROGRAMS
These programs are held two evenings per week starting in September through mid-June: Aerobics (mainly Tuesdays & Thursdays), Basketball (Tuesdays & Thursdays), and Volleyball (Mondays and Wednesdays). The R & B Line Dancing will be held on Monday evenings and Saturday mornings.
BABE RUTH/BASEBALL INSTRUCTIONS
Hitting, fielding, pitching, and throwing clinic in the back gym of the high school. High School age will meet most Tuesdays and Thursdays in January and February. Age 9 through 8th grade will meet most Mondays and Wednesdays November through March.
BASKETBALL
Recreation basketball is comprised of two components: in-house (rec) and the travel program. The travel program is highly competitive with practices 3-4 days per week. Practice times are typically 6-8 pm and players are required to tryout for the travel program. Teams are selected at the 7th and 8th grade levels (boys and girls). There will be additional costs involved if selected to participate at this level as uniforms are custom ordered and teams may participate in holiday tournaments. As an estimate, the additional cost could be as much as $150.
The in-house (rec) program is less competitive with practices averaging about 2-3 days per week. There are two levels of play within the rec program. The minors division is comprised of 4th & 5th graders and the majors division is 6th, 7th, & 8th graders. Depending on how many girls register will determine whether there are enough to run one or two divisions. There are no additional costs associated with the rec program.
SOCCER-INDOOR
Program will be coed and run on Saturdays from December through February. Games will be held in Burlington Township school gyms. Each family will be responsible for working one shift in the concession area. Program is looking for local sponsors to assist in funding. Please contact the program commissioner, for more information.
SOCCER – HIGH SCHOOL
The Burlington Twp. Soccer Coaches Assoc. (BTSCA) helps implement the Township’s travel soccer program and believes that all participants should have fun while learning the game. High School Age Soccer teams are through large regional leagues including South Jersey Soccer, MAPs, JAGs, etc. In addition to the registration processing fee, participants may be responsible for the following additional fees: uniforms ($30 and up) and tournaments ($25 and up). Please visit the BTSCA’s website for information: http://btsoccer.homestead.com
STREET HOCKEY PROGRAM
The Burlington Township Street Hockey program is designed to help children learn the skills, fundamentals, and rules of the game while providing the children the opportunity to work with others, build teamwork skills, and develop the ability to compete at a friendly level. This program also is designed to provide a safe and fun playing environment and, therefore, is a non-contact league. Additional information:
· The program is looking to form tournament travel teams. Only those individuals who are registered for the in-house program will be allowed to participate. Costs for the tournament teams are additional and separate from the in-house program.
· In addition to the registration fee there may be added costs.
· Players are required to wear a helmet with a cage, shin guards, padded hockey gloves, an athletic cup (boys), and use a stick (that is the proper length) when out on the hockey court.
· Games and practices will be held during the week and on weekends. Practices and games may be held in cold temperatures. Please make sure you and your child dress appropriately.
· Once again, the Street Hockey program will continue to host fundraisers throughout the season and look forward to everyone’s support.
· Any parent interested in coaching will need to check off the appropriate box on the registration form. All coaches (head and assistant) will be required to obtain a certificate for Concussion Training which can be done on-line (See Below).
TRACK-INDOOR
Welcome to the Burl. Twp. Track Club. While the primary focus is track, we mentor the athletes through the coaching philosophies of emphasizing teamwork, personal responsibility, respect for authority, setting and reaching goals, and academic achievement. Days of practice are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. To learn more, please visit the website at www.eteamz.com/townshiptrack
WRESTLING
Wrestling is a travel program participating in the Grapevine Wrestling League. Focus is on the introduction of wrestling to the beginner, as well as sharpening the skills of experienced wrestlers. Wrestlers will practice three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) divided into two groups. Kindergarten through 4th grade will practice from 6:00 to 7:00 pm and Grades 5 and above will practice from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. Wrestlers will compete in 6 matches (2 home/4 away) and up to 3 tournaments. There will be additional costs for parents whose children participate in tournaments. Wrestlers will be paired against other wrestlers of similar age, weight, and skill level. Additional information can be found at www.grapevinewrestling.org
