A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Alpha M. Hutchinson.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Alpha M. Hutchinson, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

WHEREAS, Alpha M. Hutchinson was born on April 13, 1919, a native of Elk Fork, Morgan County, Kentucky, and longtime resident of Morehead, Rowan County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on January 8, 2002; and

WHEREAS, Alpha M. Hutchinson was the loving son of the late David Roscoe Hutchinson and Myndra Evelyn Conley Hutchinson, he was the devoted husband of Mildred Randall Hutchinson, he was the loving father of a daughter, Susan Jane Neff of Morehead, and the proud grandfather of three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and he was the loving brother of a sister, Dorotha H. Cales of Morehead, and a brother, David Roscoe Hutchinson, Jr., of Carlisle; and

WHEREAS, Alpha M. Hutchinson was an esteemed member of the Rowan County community where he was the longtime chairman of the board of The Citizens Bank of Morehead, and where he began his career in 1940 as a bookkeeper and janitor, receiving $40 a month as bookkeeper and another $5 a month as janitor; a self-made man, he became president of the bank in 1970 and chairman of the board in 1978; and

WHEREAS, Alpha M. Hutchinson formerly served on the Kentucky Department of Financial Institutions board of directors and the Kentucky Bankers Association board of directors; he was a past member of the National Advisory Council of the United States Small Business Administration, former president and member of the board of directors of the Morehead Chamber of Commerce, past member and treasurer of the Morehead City Council, past chairman of the Rowan County Selective Service Board, a member of the Federal Emergency Management Agency board of directors, director of the Morehead-Rowan County Library board of directors, ad hoc chairman and director of Cave Run Mental Health-Mental Retardation board of directors in Rowan County, and former executive secretary of Cave Run Reservoir Association in Rowan County; he was instrumental in raising funds for St. Claire Medical Center, was past chairman of the Salvation Army in Rowan County, and was a corporate sponsor of the Morehead Business and Professional Women's Club; he served on the board of directors of the Kentucky division of the American Cancer Society, and also had been on the Kentucky Folk Art Center board of directors; and

WHEREAS, Alpha M. Hutchinson was a loyal member of the Republican Party, he was a delegate to three Republican National Conventions, and he visited the White House during the administrations of five different presidents; he was named "Man of the Year" by the Morehead Lions Club, he was the recipient of an honorary doctorate degree from Morehead State University in 1999, and on his eightieth birthday, the City of Morehead proclaimed April 13, 1999, as "Alpha Hutchinson Day"; and

WHEREAS, Alpha M. Hutchinson was a devout member of Morehead United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the board of stewards and the board of trustees; he was former church treasurer, young adult Sunday school class teacher, and youth fellowship leader; and

WHEREAS, Alpha M. Hutchinson served his country with distinction in the United States Army during World War II, and he was the recipient of a Purple Heart and Bronze Star; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Alpha M. Hutchinson has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its utter sense of bereavement upon the passing of Alpha M. Hutchinson, and extends to his family and many friends its most profound and deepest sympathy.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Alpha M. Hutchinson.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mrs. Mildred Randall Hutchinson, 235 Knapp Avenue, Morehead, Kentucky 40351.
