PUPIL PERSONNEL SERVICES CREDENTIAL

SCHOOL SOCIAL WORK and CHILD WELFARE AND ATTENDANCE

REQUIRED FIELD PLACEMENT ACTIVITIES

Applicants for the credential must have experience in working with at least two of the three different school-aged populations: elementary, middle, and/or high school; with students of diversity (at least 10 students of a racial or ethnic background that is different from the applicants) which includes regular and special education students. A total of 450 hours is required for the School Social Work specialization with an additional 150 hours required for the Child Welfare and Attendance specialization.

School Social Work Required Activities Check Off

1.  / Provide individual and family counseling.
2.  / Create/provide classroom presentations/lessons.
3.  / Complete at least one classroom observation.
4.  / Observe at least one playground or lunch period.
5.  / Collaborate with administrators, teachers, and other support staff to address the needs of pupils.
6.  / Consult with teachers on classroom behaviors.
7.  / Attend school intervention team meetings regarding vulnerable youth, (e.g., SST, SART, etc.).
8.  / Attend at least one Individualized Educational Plan meeting (IEP).
9.  / Participate in data monitoring/data analysis of interventions such as PBIS & RTI.
10.  / Complete a family assessment.
11.  / Complete at least one home visit.
12.  / Develop at least one behavior management plan for a student.
13.  / Facilitate at least two parent groups, workshops, or classes.
14.  / Facilitate a student intervention/support group.
15.  / Identify a student subpopulation and research the district, local, and state policies that impact or relate to this subpopulation.
16.  / Become involved in community networking by visiting local services, participating in resource mapping, and bringing new services into the schools.
17.  / Identify and provide community referrals for children and families.
18.  / Advocate for children and families at the school site, community and district level.
19.  / Attend/participate in school staff meetings.


Child Welfare and Attendance Activities

1.  / Attend Student Attendance Review Board meeting(s) (SARB).
2.  / Perform home visits to assess attendance-related issues (verify addresses, address truancy issues, deliver correspondence, etc).
3.  / Assist in the development of student plans to address attendance-related issues.
4.  / Identify district support/interventions related to attendance issues.
5.  / Analyze attendance data at the individual and/or school level.

For current MSW students: This form should be submitted for review at the end of the first and second semester.
