Fifth Grade Procedures

PROCEDURES FOR USING THE BATHROOM

You may NOT go when the teacher is teaching. Please wait for a more appropriate time, such as during independent work or class restroom breaks.

When you use the bathrooms you need to follow the appropriate classroom procedures. NO playing around on the way to the bathroom or in the bathroom itself.

PROCEDURES FOR HANDING IN PAPERS/PROJECTS

Make sure you place the proper heading on all papers.

* Any assignment turned in without this heading may not be accepted*

Below is a sample of a correct heading. This heading is to be on all homework, notes, projects, and class work.

PROCEDURE FOR A FIREDRILL

When the fire bell goes off immediately stop everything and line up quietly at the door. There will be NO TALKING, PUSHING OR RUNNING.

All teachers will go over the fire exits and escape routes from each specific room.

If you are out of the classroom when the alarm sounds, report to the nearest teacher or adult.

PROCEDURE FOR SHARPENING YOUR PENCIL

Pencils are NOT to be sharpened while the teacher is teaching. You should have TWO sharpened pencils with you at all times. The best times to sharpen pencils are:

  • Before morning announcements
  • During independent work

Always be prepared!

PROCEDURES FOR ENTERING A CLASSROOM

You are expected to wait in the hallway until you are invited into the classroom by a teacher.

If you are waiting, or the teacher is not in the classroom, you should line up in a straight and silent line along the side of the hallway.

PROCEDURES FOR RECORDING HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS

You are expected to take yourplanner with you to each class and write down homework assignments as the teacher assigns them.

If you miss an opportunity to write down an assignment, you are expected to check your teacher’s website or call a friend.

HOMEWORK POLICY

You will be expected to read for 30 minutes each night. You may also have homework assignments in addition to this nightly reading homework.

There may also be times when you will be responsible for completing unfinished classwork.

Remember – daily work is often an extension of the previous night’s homework, so doing your homework prepares you for your daily work!

SNACKS AND WATER BOTTLES

You will have an opportunity during each morning to eat a snack.

Snacks should be healthy and an appropriate portion. They are not to be traded or shared with other students. Please remember to bring any needed forks, spoons, or napkins with you.

Water bottles must be clear and have a secure lid. They should contain water only.

Water bottles may be re-filled at lunch. They will be kept on the ground next to your desk in our classroom.

CLASSROOM REWARD SYSTEM

You will have the opportunity to earn tickets for good behavior, choices, and academic performance. Poor choices may result in losing your tickets.

You are responsible for keeping track of your tickets.

Your homeroom teacher will give you more information about redeeming your tickets.

RECESS SAFETY

If you hear a whistle or an adult’s voice, stop and look at your teacher. If your teacher’s hand is up, line up immediately.

You must obey the recess boundaries and any teacher outside.

  • Do not touch any animals or insects
  • Notify a teacher immediately if you see a stranger in the recess area
  • All games that involve running must be played on the grass
  • No gymnastics (your feet may not go above your head)
  • Be aware of your surroundings and younger children

Students,

Please read through this procedures packet with your parents or guardians. This packet will be stored in the spot designated by your homeroom teacher. You may refer to this packet if you forget any of the procedures. You are responsible for knowing these procedures and following the guidelines. If we all follow these procedures it will make for a wonderful learning environment!

Parents,

Please sign at the bottom of this page. If you have any questions about these procedures, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher at school, and he or she can discuss your concerns. Also, please note that this packet is not a comprehensive list of Blackshear’s procedures. For additional information, review the “Klein ISD Student Handbook,” which was sent home on the first day of school.

We are looking forward to a productive, safe and enjoyable year!
