Service Cluster Board Flex Fund Application
The Service Cluster Board (SCB) Flex Fund is a monetary resource provided by the SGA Finance Committee and administered by the SCB Flex Fund Review Committee. Its purpose is to support service initiatives of individual students, ad-hoc groups, and official student organizations by providing guidance and funding, if not already allocated in approved budgets. Examples of previously funded initiatives are: transportation to teach a foreign language at Monkton Elementary, service trips during winter and spring breaks, and dinners at a local homeless shelter.
Guidelines:
- Applications must be submitted to at least two weeks prior to the event.
- The need for funding must be clearly articulated and the amount carefully budgeted—“rough estimates” will not be approved.
- Application approval must be obtained before spending funds or making a commitment to spend funds. Per standard SGA Finance Committee guidelines, the SCB Flex Fund Review Committee will not fund retroactive requests.
- The applicant will be notified via e-mail whether the funding has been approved by the Flex Fund Review Committee.
- If funding is granted, it is understood that it may only be spent as specified in the initial request.
- Depending on the nature of the request, the funds will be provided as a reimbursement to a student, a direct charge to an approved Middlebury College vendor (e.g., Ben Franklin), or a transaction made on the Community Engagement procurement credit card.
- Applications for funding must abide by policies set forth by the Student Activities Office (SAO) and the SGA Finance Committee guidelines. Exception: student service organizations may use funding for food, refreshments, and other consumables (e.g. t-shirts, prizes) when those items are necessary for the group’s service activities and germane to the organization’s mission.
- If funded, a one-page follow-up report/reflection will be required. Pictures, if possible, would also be appreciated.
SCB Flex Fund applications are reviewed on a regular basis. A confirmation email will be sent upon receipt of your application. We look forward to working with you!
