Taster Session 1: Film studies, Film Studies with Production
“Censorship”
Almost as soon as there was film, there was censorship. Throughout its history the mass appeal of the cinema has been scrutinised by intellectuals, moralists, religious groups, sociologists and politicians for the effects it might have on the viewing public. This session will consider some of the debates surrounding censorship and ask you to explore what, if anything, might need to be censored in contemporary society.
Taster Session 2: Media, Film and Television & Media, Music and Sound
“Transmedia”
This taster session examines the development of transmedia storytelling within digital environments. The convergence of media, technologies and culture has heralded in a new age of audience engagement within media franchises. The session will reflect on this enhanced two-way communication and will engage students in new and innovative ways of connecting to the audience with extended narrative and content.
Taster Session 3: Television Production Management
“Lift Pitch 101”
Picture the following scenario. You’re whizzing up in a lift with a TVcommissioner. They’re looking for their next shortfilm or TVproject. You have a script idea. Hmm. What now? You pitch fast and hard. You probably have 30 seconds to 1-2 minutes. Go! Could you do it?
A successful programme pitch absolutely relies on the confidence and presentation skills of the presenter to succeed. In this session, we spend some time developing this skill, focusing particularly on voice modulation and body language.
Bring an idea for a TV show or short film (it can be not much morethanscribbles on the back of a napkin)and learn how to make people fall in love with yourcreative ideas.
