POSITION:Student Nutrition Program: Food and Logistics Specialist

LOCATION:Kitchener

REPORTS TO:Student Nutrition Program Regional Lead

HOURS:Full Time(evenings and weekends as required)

SALARY: $22.31

START DATE:Immediate

FUNCTION: The goal of the Student Nutrition Program is to provide access to nutritious meals and snacks for children and youth so they are ready to learn and be successful in school. As the Food and Logistics Coordinator your responsibility is to facilitate the efficient sourcing, purchasing, storage, and distribution of food within Ontario’s Student Nutrition Program (SNP) through the development of regional and local partnerships with industry, municipalities and non-government organizations in support of Central West SNP Delivery Partners.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete regular reviews of sourcing, purchasing, storage and distribution of food products amongst existing programs
  • Develop resources and strategies to improve the supply chain logistics, purchasing, inventory management, distribution and transportation of food products of Central West SNP partners
  • Support the efficient sourcing, purchasing and aggregation of food products within SNP by: a) Facilitating wholesale or bulk orders, b) Negotiating favourable pricing from local and large-scale businesses, c) Facilitating economics of scale by bringing together growers or business to aggregate products, d) Acquiring food donations
  • Deliver training to program staff/volunteers around effective food purchasing strategies
  • Support the efficient storage, and distribution of food products within SNP from vendors/donors to central locations and/or program sites by: a) Inventory management, b) Leveraging food hub infrastructures, c) Leveraging local food system infrastructures such as farms, cooperatives or retailers, d) Leveraging existing foodservice or retail distribution channels, e) Negotiating in-kind transportation options from large scale donors and or partners
  • Promote the consumption of locally and sustainably-produced foods, when available and practical, by: a) Sourcing from Ontario farms, b) Seeking vendors that offer and supply Ontario food products, c) Leveraging other local farm to school initiatives
  • Provide broader support to SNP Lead Agency and Community Development Coordinators as required
  • Provide broader support to enhance program sustainability as required
  • Attend workshops, trainings, conferences and staff meetings as required
  • Assume other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University Degree in dietetics, foodservice, food or agriculture economics or related field of study
  • Knowledge of food safety and traceability protocols and practices such as Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP)
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety, Food Handling including sanitation and maintenance regulations
  • 4-5 years of experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven computer knowledge
  • Valid driver’s license and transportaion
  • Acceptable Police Check
