Dear Professor Dr. Dr. Birger Kollmeier

Lately I have been been informed by Carl Ludvigsen from Widex about your work concerning strategies for a common european university education in audiology.

I would concerning this issue like to inform you about the present educational status in Denmark.

Till now the danish “hörgeräteakustiker”-education has been a short 2 year non-university education.

Realising the lack of educational level related to the increasing demand for both theoretical and clinical knowledge, we at my university back in 2003 started planning a new university based audiology education.

We have succeded in starting this education/study in september 2005.

The name of this education has been chosen to be: “Technical Audiologist”.

This to separate it from the danish “Audiologist” which is an ENT doctor subspecialised in audiology. We are argueing to change the latter to be named: “Medical Audiologist”.

The education is constucted of a 3 year bachelor and a 2 year candidate study.

Since the study is new we are just having the first students to graduate as bachelors in the summer 2008. The candidate study will start september 2008.

The study is based at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense. It involves 4 faculties: the faculty of health science, the faculty of natural science, the faculty of technical sciense and the faculty of language development. We are having a colaboration with Oersted at the Danish Technical University in Lyngby, more specific with professor Torsten Dau and Torben Poulsen.

During the first year of the study most of the lectures are in common with the study of logopaedic.

Following is a list of the disciplines of the bachelor study:

Introduction to Audiologopaedics 5 ECTS

Psychology 5 ECTS

Theoretical and Applied Linguistics 7,5 ECTS
