Job Title: Librarian
Grade: Scale 2/3
38½ hours per week, 39 weeks per year
Hours: 8.00am – 4.30pm Monday to Thursday and 8.00am – 3.30pm Friday.
Responsible to: Deputy Head
This post is campus based. In addition to clerical/administrative duties, the post involves supervision of students engaged in private study and of students sent to use the Library during lessons. The librarian will also supervise students before and after school and at break/lunch times. All supervision of students during lesson time is under the guidance and oversight of members of the teaching staff.
Duties include:
1. To open the library between the hours of 8.00am and 4.30pm (3.30pm on Friday) and promote independent use of the space for students to complete homework, read or borrow library books. To maintain high expectations of student behaviour and conduct and deal with any issues in line with the school behaviour policy.
2. To provide general day-to-day upkeep and maintenance of the Library. This will include meeting with book suppliers to maintain Library stock, choosing, ordering, covering and cataloguing of new books. Also tidying stock and repairing books.
2. To be present in the Library during opening hours and to ensure the security and maintenance of the Library equipment and resources.
3. To assist and guide students in their use of Library resources.
4. To report any concerns about the behaviour of students to an appropriate member of staff.
5. To keep records of Library use for monitoring purposes.
6. Liaising with teaching staff regarding any new resources required.
7. Generating lists of books for certain topics for teaching staff when requested.
8. Issuing overdue notices and chasing up students, when necessary send letters and
phone home.
9. To select and purchase DVDs, catalogue, label and ensure they are kept secure.
10. To provide assistance to students and teachers on the use of the computers, software and printers.
11. To maintain display boards for the Library.
12. Organising extracurricular activities to promote reading.
13. To provide typing and data input for staff which includes inputting ‘registration’ and’ lates’ data into SIMs.
14. To assist with general administrative duties as directed by the Executive Headteacher or Deputy Head.
Other Duties:
15. To ensure that Data Protection regulations are adhered to throughout the office, informing the Office Manager of any requests for information other than from approved agencies: DfES, LA.
16. To exercise responsibility under the Health and Safety at Work Act as laid down or as
amended from time to time by school procedures. To ensure all necessary
records are accurate.
17. To uphold and further the school’s equal opportunities policy and to carry out duties effectively and without discrimination.
18. Any duties on behalf of Edmonton County School within the London Borough of Enfield.
19. Any other reasonable duties within the scope of this function and grading as directed by the Executive Headteacher or Office Manager.
20. To act at all times in accordance with school policies and to provide a professional role model for pupils, parents and other staff.
