POLICY:

Razor Control

Policy: To aid the control of potentially harmful items in the inmate living areas, the availability of shaving razors will be restricted.

Procedure:

a. Shaving razors shall be the plastic disposable type.

b. Razors will be supplied by the facility.

c. Razors will be distributed to each inmate on Sundays for each housing unit at a time in the morning following breakfast that does not interfere with other activities.

d. Distribution of razors and other hygiene items will be made by a corrections officer and a daily record of razor and hygiene distribution and collection will be made in the

Hygiene Log Book.

e. The corrections officer must account for all razors, and a record of daily razor and hygiene distribution and collection will be made in the activity log (written & computer).

f. Failure to account for all razors distributed will result in an immediate lock down of all housing units, and a cell by cell shakedown until the missing razor is found.

g. Razors will be allowed to remain in a housing unit for a reasonable period.

h. Any attempt by an inmate to hide, alter, or other misuse a razor will result in immediate disciplinary action.
