MINUTES
January 17, 2012 – 6:30 p.m.
Dave’s Taverna
Present: Mike Guinn, Treasurer; David Law, Vice President; Anieta McCracken, Secretary; and Rich Ruozzi, President.
Absent: Jeff Campbell, Member at Large; and John Welsh, Public Relations.
Guests Present: Joe Rudmin.
Minutes. The minutes of the September and October meetings were approved with corrections.
Treasurer’s Report. M. Guinn reported a balance of $5,751.16.
Clock. M. Guinn will continue research regarding buying a clock.
Club Shirts. R. Ruozzi said the total cost for club shirts will be about $400.
Turkey Run. About 60 runners participated; next year the Club will consider online registrations to see if that increases the number of participants. 2011 was also the only year that both flour and signs were not used to mark the course. Also there was no officer available for Dinkle Avenue, so Butch Proctor covered that intersection instead of leading on his bike as originally planned. One runner unfortunately did run off course. So next year both flour arrows on the pavement and signs will be used to mark the course.
Road Runners Club of America. Club membership for 2012 was renewed.
Indoor Track Meets. The first meet is Thursday, January 19. Registration starts at 5:30, and the first race is at 5:45. It is imperative that all participants sign waivers, as RRCA will not cover participants who have not.
116th Infantry Race. The 116th had a new organizer this year. R. Ruozzi said the actual timing went well, but compiling the results took 45 minutes.
Hess Greenhouse 5K. Hess Greenhouse has requested dates for a fall race. R. Ruozzi suggested this take place in conjunction with a picnic and/or other events there.
Grottoes Race. Track club member Mike Betts is considering both fall and spring races at Grottoes. He has some creative ideas, such as having participants signing a canvas cave to publicize the cave.
SVTC Bylaws. A copy of J. Rudmin’s proposed bylaws will be posted on the SVTC web site so viewers can comment. The committee will then consider the Bylaws once public comment has ended.
Secretary’s Resignation. The members accepted A. McCracken’s resignation as secretary and expressed their gratitude, especially noting how much race participants appreciated same day race results being posted. It was decided that a request for a volunteer replacement be made on the Google group. J. Rudmin said he would be willing to serve if no one else volunteers.
10 Miler Sponsorships. Committee members brainstormed and compiled a beginning list of companies from whom to solicit sponsorships for the May Keezletown 10 Miler:
- Merck
- Coors
- Rosetta Stone
- Rockingham Group
- R.R. Donnelly
- George’s/Cargill
- Dynamic Aviation
- OpenWorld Dot Com (Mark Frazier is our contact there)
- Wharton, Alhizer & Weaver

Other Items to Pursue
R. Ruozzi suggested we bid for a 5k at Burtner’s Farms through RRCA.
He also suggested that the Club sponsor a SVTC member’s attendance at the RRCA annual conference.
Another idea is to sponsor a member’s participation in this annual event, and also to seek clearance for a 5K on Skyline Drive, perhaps at Big Meadows.
Meeting adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Joseph D. Rudmin
Secretary
