BAND LETTER:

Dear Band Parents,

It is my distinct pleasure to welcome you and your child to what will be another incredibly exciting year for our band program at Scott Middle School. This year the students will be playing in concert ensembles, marching ensembles, jazz ensembles, small chamber ensembles, and even playing solos. There will also be opportunities for some of the students to play with some of the high school groups as we progress into the school year.

As a student in band, your child is required to have their instrument with them every day in class. All students who do not own instruments are required to rent from the school by completing a rental agreement form, which you will find attached to this letter. All of the rental details such as cost, payment due date, and instrument policies are included on the rental agreement form, so please read it carefully. It is important to understand that the rental fee covers not only your child’s instrument, but also any music method books required for class, a music folder, and specific accessories needed to maintain the instrument.

Our concerts take place at the Hammond Academy for the Performing Arts located at Morton High School, 6915 Grand Ave. The large auditorium stage is a very exciting area for the students to perform, and it prepares and motivates them for future concerts at the high school level. Our first concert will be on Friday, November 21st at 7:00pm. The dress rehearsal for the concert will take place on Thursday, November 20th at 4:15pm onstage at the Academy. Please make arrangements for your student to be at both the dress rehearsal and concert, as it is their “final exam” grade. I will send out another reminder as we get closer to the date of our concert.

Lastly, I would like to thank you for supporting your child’s decision to be in band and I look forward to meeting you during this exciting school year at Scott Middle School!

Musically yours,

Alex Akers
