Post:Grounds Maintenance Officer/Outside Operative

Salary:£18,727.00

Responsible to:Grounds Maintenance Manager / Clerk to the Council

JOB SUMMARY

To efficiently carry out maintenance work across the Parish of Coldharbour (Fairford Leys) – example: grass cutting, play area maintenance, highway maintenance, allotment maintenance work, maintenance of hanging baskets and roundabouts and all other maintenance matters. To carry out suitable work across the parish as directed by the Grounds Maintenance Manager and/or Clerk to the Council.

MAIN DUTIES

General Maintenance

1.Maintain grassed areas using all types of grass cutting machinery, tools and equipment

2.Dig over and weed earth borders, shrubs and flower beds

3.Plant and maintain hedges, trees, shrubs and plants

4.Watering of flower tubs and baskets

5.Carry out litter picks

6.Rake up leaves, sweep roadways and maintain public spaces

7.Assist in the preparations of and at public, community and civic events

8.Mix and use weed killers once qualified in accordance with instructions, procedures and legislation

9.Paint fencing and railings

10.Clear snow on paths and apply salt in accordance with health and safety guidelines

Highways

1.Repairs to small potholes, loose kerbstones and paving slabs

2.Routinely walk Rights of Way network to identify problems and resolve them locally and arrange for the clearance of undergrowth

3.Footpath and highway clearance of undergrowth and weed control

4.Regularly inspect the highway and remove illegal signs

5.Inspect highways and where hedges from private property have become overgrown inform the Council, via line manager, so that owners are informed in writing of the need for the clearance work to be done

6.Inspection of highways to identify trees causing problems, and arranging for works to trees to be carried out

8.Planting up of and maintenance of highway verges and roundabouts

9.Cleaning of highway signs and carry out minor repairs to signed (e.g. replace banding, etc)

10.Snow clearance of roads and footpaths and apply salt and grit

Allotments

1.Strimming of allotment paths and maintenance of allotment plots

2.Paint and repair sheds and railings

3.Repair hedging and fencing

4.Maintenance of trees and all other maintenance work required

Vehicles and Equipment

1.Clean vehicles, equipment and plant on a day to day basis and in accordance with health and safety guidelines

2.Undertake some minor repairs to vehicles, equipment and plant within your training/experience and in accordance with health and safety guidelines

3.Daily check of vehicle, equipment and plant function (e.g. oil, brake fluid, petrol) and all safety checks within your training/experience

4.Record and report safety issues relating to vehicles and equipment

General

  1. Be of assistance to the public in a polite and courteous manner and in accordance with the Council’s diversity policy
  1. Record and report any misuse of facilities by the public
  1. Carry out identified maintenance work to the Councils properties/premises as required
  1. Transport staff, materials and equipment to other sites as and when required
  1. Be prepared to attend training courses in accordance with identified training requirements
  1. Undertake such duties as may be required which are reasonably consistent with the duties, grading and character of the post
  1. To carry out all duties and responsibilities with reasonable care for the health and safety of you and any other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work, and to co-operate fully with the Parish Council in health and safety matters.
