SCOPE OF WORK: The Instructional Designer will take primary responsibility in supporting online programs developed through the TAACCCT IV grant initiatives by working with faculty and other subject matter experts in creating new online courses, revising existing online courses, and supporting and advising faculty who teach online and technology-enabled non-traditional courses. This position shall report to the Director of Online Learning at NHTI - Concord’s Community College.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

·  Orients, advises, and guides faculty and other subject matter experts through online course development, and supports faculty in the use of educational and communication technologies and related software tools that enhance online learning;

·  Draws on existing research performed by the TAACCCT team to identify gaps in existing IT and other computer-based programs, develops new and modifies existing programs, and replicates proven program models. Expands online delivery of courses and incorporates simulations and virtual training labs;

·  Facilitates new online faculty training programs, and develops and delivers professional development programs for experienced online faculty;

·  Mentors and provides proactive feedback to IT faculty throughout their first online teaching assignment;

·  Develops informational guides and resources designed to assist faculty and students in navigating the online learning environment;

·  Works with college learning center staff to coordinate tutoring services for students enrolled in online degree programs;

·  Develops and assists in online student success and persistence efforts;

·  Stays current with online learning and hybrid learning pedagogy, technology, and software;

·  Maintains records of support services and activities and prepares reports, as needed;

·  Assists in the development of proven, measurable best practices for the delivery of online training and student support services;

·  Recommends strategies to overcome barriers and obstacles to student learning in 100% online and hybrid degree and certificate programs;

·  Meets regularly with the Director of Online Learning, IT Dept. faculty and other TAACCCT team members to monitor and improve program performance and provides feedback for continuous improvement;

·  Assists in delivery of program materials to the independent evaluator and with meeting the open source licensing requirements,

·  Complies with all system, state, and federal rules and regulations;

·  Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university with a major in English, Math, Science, Communications, Social Sciences, Liberal Arts, Education, Instructional Design, Information Technology, or related field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one (1) year of required work experience.

Experience: Four (4) years' professional experience in online education or integrating technologies into teaching and learning in education or corporate setting, with responsibility for online and hybrid course design, instruction, and online and hybrid course evaluation. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

License/Certification: Valid driver’s license or access to transportation for travel throughout New Hampshire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge and understanding of online curriculum design, web based tools and technologies, and application of new technologies to teaching and learning. Experience in distance education teaching and faculty training. Preferred qualifications also include a vision and commitment to increasing access to high quality online teaching and learning, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Considerable knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations governing the programs to which assigned, and of federal and community resources and organizations. Working knowledge of research and planning methods and planning techniques. Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to write technical information. Ability to understand and interpret the functional interrelationship of policy, regulations and procedures and to evaluate the impact on programs, service delivery, clients and staff. Ability to detect and define problem areas and causes and to create and develop effective solutions, including the exercise of sound judgment in evaluating situations, planning action, making decisions and setting priorities. Ability to work independently to develop new or alternative approaches to meet changing and variable conditions. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority.
