Tips for helping your child prepare for Kindergarten

·  Help your child practice holding his/her pencil correctly (tripod grip). Practice with your child writing his/her first name properly with the first letter capitalized and the rest in lowercase letters.

·  Read aloud to and with your child daily. Talk about the story (characters, sequence of the story, etc) together. You can also use the attached form to add to your story experiences!

·  Put together puzzles, legos, Lincoln logs, blocks, etc

·  Play with play dough (you can make letters, numbers, shapes and more)

·  Color together. Show your child how to color in the lines and color things in real-life colors.

·  Draw together. Talk about how people and animals have heads, arms, legs, etc.

·  Use the attached sight word list to expose your child to the words he/she will be working with during the school year.

·  Play outside together and enjoy the summer weather!

We can’t wait to see you in September! Have a great summer!
