The role of artistic expression in the creation of cultural value

The Pro Vice-Chancellor Community, Partnerships and Regional Developmentinvites competitive applications from interested researchers/research teams to apply for funding and access to investigate the role artistic expression might have in the creation of cultural value,that is, the arts and cultural sector’s role as a driver of ‘value’ in all its forms. Access will be given to the exhibition “Imagining food: art, aesthetics and design” ( as the case study event. The exhibition runs from 20 February–13 Aprilat the Academy Gallery, Inveresk.

To assist in the research a grant of up to $2,000 will be made. This grant recognisesthe significance of cultural valueto the University’s research, teaching and engagement strategies.

Eligibility
  • The scheme is open to level A-E academics.
Application process
  • Electronic applications should be submitted to by close of business, Monday 27February 2017.
Allowable expenditures
Funds must be used to support researchrelated expenditures, namely:
  • research assistance;
  • data collection;
  • data analysis;
  • printing and stationery.
Assessment
Proposals will be formally assessed by the Pro Vice-Chancellor Community, Partnerships and Regional Development.Applications must outline:
  • proposed expenditure;
  • project team members;
  • planned activities; and
  • expected outcomes (e.g. HERDC reportable publications, industry or practice engagement, learning and teaching materials).
Conditions of grant
  • All fundsmust be expended by 30 November 2017. Any unspent funds will be reclaimed after that date.
  • Appropriate ethics clearance is required.
  • Successful applicants will be required to report on progress within 6 months.
