3.Delegation / The Merri Creek Management Committee’s (MCMC) primary aim is to ensure preservation of natural and cultural heritage, and the ecologically sensitive restoration, development and maintenance of the MerriCreek and tributaries, their corridors and associated ecological communities.
MCMC employs specialist staff and its programs are funded by Council members, by State and Federal grant programs, by competitively won tenders, by grants from philanthropic organisations and through sponsorship.
MCMC advises Council on priorities, issues, processes and programs, which will assist MCMC’s core objective of enhancing and protecting the Merri Creek catchment.
4.Scope / Merri Creek Management Committee Inc. (MCMC) is an environmental co-ordination and management agency formed in 1989 to achieve a shared vision for the waterway corridors of the Merri Creek Catchments. Its members include all municipalities in the catchment: Moreland, Darebin, Hume, Whittlesea, Yarra and Mitchell, plus the Friends of Merri Creek. Representatives of these member groups form the Committee of Management that guides MCMC’s activities.

Council has one Councillor and one officer representative on MCMC. Both are Directors of the Committee of Management with full voting powers.
Councillors are appointed annually at the Ceremonial Council Meeting. Officer representation is ongoing unless advised otherwise.
6.Current or anticipated role of staff member / Representation at the Annual General Meeting and quarterly meetings; resourcing two meetings at Coburg Civic Centre each year; providing a point of contact and day to day liaison with MCMC manager and staff.

SELECTION CRITERIA FOR APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO THE MERRI CREEK MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

Selection Process

MCMC requests Councils nominate both a Councillor and an officer candidate (usually the Landscape Policy Planning and Design Coordinator) annually. There is no selection process as such other than this.
