Storingline
Scene 1
  • - There is a village located in Nam Et-Phou Louey National Protected Area.
  • The basic subsistence and livelihood of these villagers are primarily relied on hunting wildlife, harvesting non-timber forest products (mushrooms, bamboos, rattans, tree barks etc.), doing slash and burn cultivation, farming, raising live stocks and doing other agricultural practices.
Scene 2
  • In the village there is uncle Kham family, he is village militia, he is alcholic, he is always spending his time with playing cards, he is always violent his wife and kids. The family doesn’t have any happiness. In fact, there is always fighting
  • Uncle Kham hunts wildlife for sell to buy alchol and pay cards.
  • He always uses modern gun and prohibited tools for hunting
  • He always hunts in NPA core zone
  • He is always angry and violent his wife and kids when he doesn’t success with hunting.
Scene 3
  • Close to uncle Kham’s house is uncle Pon’s.
  • Uncle Pon’s basic subsistence and livelihood is are primarily relied on hunting wildlife for food only, harvesting non-timber forest products (mushrooms, bamboos, rattans, tree barks etc.), doing slash and burn cultivation, farming, raising live stocks and doing other agricultural practices.
  • Uncle Pon always hunts managed species, in his village use area, by using right tools, in the right season for food only.
  • He is a clever hunter.

  • Uncle Kham’s wife always come sadly talk to uncle Pon and his wife about the violention that she and her kids always faces and the legality of hunting because she is afraid he will be arrested and put in jail one day by hunting illegally.
Scene 5
  • Uncle Pon gives advice to uncle Kham regarding using modern gun and prohibited tools for hunting is illegal.
  • He also explains the nagative impacts of illegal hunting.
  • He explains to uncle Kham that uncle Kham might be arrested if he keep hunting illegally.ut
  • He explains wildlife will be gone, we will not have free food from forest any more.
Scene 6
  • Even uncle Pon has been talking to uncle Kham many times, he just ignores what he have heard from uncle Pon. In fact, he keep hunting illegally.
  • When uncle Kham gets the money from selling wildlife he always goes for drink with friends.
  • One of his friends uncle Mai asks him how does uncle Kham earn money?
  • Uncle Kham secretely tells Uncle Mai and his friends that he earns money from selling wildlife.
  • Uncle Kham persuades some of his friends including uncle Mai to hunt with him illegally.
  • Uncle Kham hunts as many as he can.
  • While uncle Mai and other hunt not many just for food.
Scene 7
  • Days are gone the number of wildlife keep decreasing, people who hunt legally found it is difficult to hunt wildlife-.
  • When wildlife population decreases effects livelihood of local villagers who hunt wildlife for food.
  • In the past our great grand parents lived in the forest all the time, but they survived that because they had many wildlife to eat.
  • If we don’t have wildlife for eating today and in the future we will be poorer.
  • Uncle Mai, uncle Pon and other don’t know the real cause, but uncle Mai keep thinking it might be because him, uncle Kham and other hunt illegally. But he doesn’t say anything yet.
Scene 8
  • One day while Uncle Mai is walking and keep revising the reason that decrease of wildlife population in the village.
  • He accidentially meet with uncle Kham’s kids.
  • He rubs his eyes “what the hell happens on your faces? Look at these bruises” he said.
  • The kids repond “our dad hit us”
Scene 9
  • One day later, uncle Mai goes to see uncle Kham at his house.
  • He sees uncle Kham’s wife and kids wear tore clothes.
Scene 10
  • Uncle Mai walks toward uncle Kham kitchen.
  • Only he steps his foot into kitchen he sees dead Sambar Deer, pregnant Muntjac and wild pig and huge sack of smoke squirells which are kept for a buyer.
  • When he sees the scale of hunting that uncle does.
  • It is very hard for him to except.
  • He turn his face to uncle Kham and says it is clear to me that the decrease of wildlife that we hunt for food for decades is because of people who hunt illegally.
  • It is over i won’t go for hunting with you any more.
  • I will tell our friends not to go for hunting like this with you any more.
  • I urge you to stop doing this unless I will report you to government officers. Angrily said uncle Mai.
  • Uncle Mai sadly works away.
Scene 11
  • Later on there is NPA staff come to the village to explain how to hunt legally.
  • And the punishment of doing illegal hunting.
Scene 12
  • But uncle Kham keep hunting illegally.
Scene 13
  • One day uncle Mai takes a walk around the village.
  • The same with uncle Pon’s wife.
  • They meet each other and then become friends.
  • It is almost dark, so they walk back together.
  • They accidentially meet uncle Kham and some of his friends carry modern guns on his sholders. “where are you going, uncle Kham” Asked Pon’s wife. Uncle Mai keep quiet because he anticipate that uncle is going to hunt because they used to do this together and uncle Mai used to see huge scale of wildlife at uncle Kham’s house.
  • “I am going to look after my cows at the grazing area” Replied uncle Kham.
  • “Good luck, but be careful it is so dark” said uncle Pon’s wife. And then they separete.
Scene 14
  • When uncle Mai arrives at home he keep thinking about how to stop uncle Kham from illegal hunting.
  • Uncle Mai decides to explore if uncle Kham keep doing illegal hunting
Scene 15
  • Uncle Mai gets very early in the morning.
  • He goes to entrance of the forest where everyone in the village use to enter the forest.
  • Not too long he sees uncle Kham and one of his friends are carrying dead Sambar Deer and ther other two of his friends are carrying one wild pig and one muntjac.
  • Uncle Mai is hiding behind a bush until they gone.
  • He goes home and wait for the sun for few hours.
Scene 16
  • He tells his wife and kid that he will go the town to buy some ingredients
  • He takes a Song Taew (local public transportation).
  • When he arrives at town.
  • He goes to report to government officer directly.
Scene 17
  • Governemt officers of five people takes a trucks to village.
Scene 18
  • Uncle Kham is arrested by government officers.
  • Government officers give him a warning letter.
  • Uncle Kham is fired from being village militia.
Scene 19
  • After, he is arrested and warned and fined by government officers.
  • He is allowed to go home.
Scene 20
  • At night uncle Kham goes to hunt again.
Scene 21
  • Next morning uncle Pon’s wife gets up very early and she goes to her garden where is located near the entrance of the forest.
  • She doesn’t believe what she sees uncle Kham and one of his friends are carrying dead Sambar Deer.
Scene 22
  • Uncle Pon’s wife runs home and she meet with uncle Mai who is taking a walk around the village.
  • I sees uncle Kham and his friend carry a Sambar deer, what should we do.
  • Uncle Mai says, let’s report, do you remember last time he was arrested, I reported him.
  • He tells his wife and kid that he will go the town to buy some ingredients
  • He takes a Song Taew (local public transportation).
  • When he arrives at town.
  • He goes to report to government officer directly.
Scene 23
  • Governemt officers of five people takes a trucks to village.
Scene 24
  • Finally, uncle Kham is arrested and put in jail.
  • “I will never ever hunt illegally” Said uncle Mai, “We will never ever hunt illegally too” Said his friends, b ecause uncle Mai and his friends understand the reasons that hunting regulations are needed.
  • Uncle Mai’s wife and his kids are very pround of him being good hunters.
  • Uncle Pon’s wife stop by to congratulates with uncle Mai and his family.
  • Uncle Mai visits uncle Pon’s house and become friend.
Scene 25
  • Uncle Mai is chosen to receive good role model hunter in term of legality of hunting. Because he:
  • Hunts by using cross bow and snares.
  • Hunts in the village use area.
  • Hunts managed species (muntjac, wild pig, squirrels, bamboo rats, red jungle fowl, patridge and quail).
  • Hunts during open season.
  • Hunts for food only.
  • Uncle Mai village to save wildlife forfood for everyone.
  • Uncle Mai reports illegal hunters to government officers

  • Uncle Mai’s wife, kids and villagers are happy and proud of uncle Mai.
  • Uncle Mai takes this opportunity to talk to the crowd that anyone here can be chosen to be good role model hunter like him just:
