MCQ Board Meeting

Zeeda opened the meeting with a question of what would we suggest as encouragement for members to bring guests to the June meeting. After a bit of discussion we decided to do a special drawing for members bringing a guest. Nancy Eha is donating a special fabric bundle as the prize. Each quest with receive a MCQ pen, bookmark and the last newsletter along with a ribbon on their nametag.
Nancy Eha will also do a power point that will run before the meeting highlighting our events and membership. This can also run at the beginning of each meeting.
Secretary report- Leah : one card sent since last meeting and still could use Sunshine cards. A newsletter notice will give Leah’s contact for anyone wanting a sunshine card sent.
Treasurer and Membership- LaVonne: we currently have 105 members. The checking account currently is $1400 and the savings account is $3900. No specific money issues. LaVonne is checking the current budget for speaker fees. We have yet to pay a deposit for Wapo 2017 fall retreat as currently have $2000 paid for upcoming retreats.
Textile Center Update- reported from Tina: The Sue Benner workshop is sold out and a waiting list will be kept
Special Events- Nancy E: The Stillwater tour has sold 19 tickets and the final count must be given to the Trolley company on June 6. We will meet at Freight House for lunch at 11:30 and the tour is 1-3.
The Carver County Barn Tour is September 10. Tickets will be on sale in July and we need 29 tickets at $45 to break even. The bus company may be able to give us a smaller bus if needed and this price includes lunch. Nancy handed out a schedule for the day with pickup at the Textile center at 8:45 returning at 4ish.
Millie P’s retreat center is open for Black Friday sew in. We need 10 people at $10 each to reserve the space. Millie P’s will give each person a discount at the store and certificate for parking. Nancy will continue to work on the details for this event. She has toured the center and will reserve the date.
Sharon is hosting a summer Saturday at the Lake on July 23th. Details regarding the address of the cottage and the three events planned for this potluck lunch play day will be in the newsletter.
Exhibits- Sally, Karrie and Barb: Bookmarks will be taken to the MQ show in St. Cloud by Leah to be put on the community table. More bookmarks will be printed for the upcoming shows, shops and events. Sharon and Peggy will work on the artwork and printing details.
The current challenge will be at the MQ show and then shown at the Swedish Institute on June 18 and then taken that day to White Bear Lake UU church. The rest of the year is booked and Sally has a date at the Textile center for 2017.
Program- Peggy: June speaker is Candy Kuehn who will do dye painting and a notice will be sent to wear clothes that can be spattered or bring an apron to protect your clothing if you wish to participate.
July is 5 X 5, the August speaker is Audrey Sello and September is Peg Lindberg.
A discussion was held regarding the Tim Harding studio tour scheduled for 10/29. The board felt that the $350 fee should be covered by a charge and concerns were raised about the many events already scheduled for the year. Peggy will speak with Tim about moving this event until early 2017.
More information will be gathered regarding the Ladies of the Lake request for a trunk show. Board members are willing to do a trunk show for this group.
Newsletter- Sharon: The deadline for the next newsletter is June 24,2016 at midnight. Pictures are requested.
Website: We now have an email for the group which is Peggy will monitor this email. We needed this for the nonprofit status for the state.
2 Bit Bags- Joan and Carol E: Need contemporary things. We also discussed groups taking over the month’s bags and more discussion will continue about this fund raising.
Other business – Carol M: The non-profit status with the Secretary of State is progressing and nearly done. We will use the standard articles of incorporation from the state. The one time filing fee is $90.
Carol is making slow progress with the Textile Center on the issue of bringing in a nationally known speaker. Contract language is still being reviewed. We are not ready to invite anyone and the list of possible speakers will not yet be shared. The Textile center is supportive of working with MCQ.
We discussed policy regarding quilt guilds bringing raffle quilts to our meeting to sell tickets. We voted to approve this with 2 members of the group being given free admission to the meeting.
