Jason’s Life Mission

5 Areas Where I Seek to Succeed

(Revised August 2017)

My Personal Life

Success in my “self” means:

Developing, using, and pursuing excellence in the abilities God gave me.

Christ has given each of us special abilities--whatever He wants us to have out of His rich storehouse of gifts. (Ephesians 4:7)

If the ax is dull and its edge unsharpened, more strength is needed but skill will bring success. (Ecclesiastes 10:10)

Maintaining my health and energy to fulfill my mission.

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

Overcoming the dysfunctional habits that could compromise my future.

Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. (Romans 5:3-5)

Living a life of wisdom and moderation.

Getting wisdom is the most important thing you can do! If you exalt wisdom, she will exalt you! (Proverbs 4:7-8)

The value of wisdom is far above rubies; nothing can compare with it. (Proverbs 8:11)

Wisdom will make the hours of your day more profitable and the years of your life more fruitful. (Proverbs 9:11)

A relaxed mind makes for physical health. (Proverbs 14:30)

Having those who know me best respect me most.

I will try to walk a blameless path, but how I need your help, especially in my own

home, where I long to act as I should. (Psalm 101:2)

My Spiritual Life

Success in my faith means:

Having an attitude and character based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

For from the very beginning God decided that those who came to Him...should become like His Son. (Romans 8:29)

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 2:5)

Experiencing God personally.

Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD. (Jeremiah 9:23-24)

Friendship with God is reserved for those who reverence Him. With them alone He shares the secrets of his promises. (Psalms 25:14)

Knowing God results in every other kind of understanding. (Proverbs 9:10)

Some people have missed the most important thing in life--they don't know God. (1 Timothy 6:21)

Becoming a student of the Bible and of classical spiritual disciplines.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

Discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness; for bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. (1 Timothy 4:7-8)

Trading frustration with my present circumstances for faith in God’s future for me.

Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. (Psalm 30:5)

Fulfilling my call and using my gifts in the roles where God places me.

Live a life worthy of the calling you have received. (Ephesians 4:1)

God has given me the wonderful privilege of telling everyone about this plan of His; and He has given me His power and special ability to do it well.

(Ephesians 3:7)

My Vocational Life

Success in my job means:

Equipping, loving and inspiring those who look to me as a leader.

Feed the flock of God; care for it willingly, not grudgingly; not for what you will get out of it but because you are eager to serve the Lord. (1 Peter 5:2)

Don't be a tyrant, but lead by your good example, and when the Head Shepherd

comes; your reward will be a never-ending share in His glory. (1 Peter 5:3-4)

Delegating and empowering other leaders in my organization so as not to become the center of attention.

We are only God's coworkers. You are God's garden, not ours; you are God's building, not ours. (1 Corinthians 3:9)

Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. (Philippians 2:4)

Keeping a job that will provide for the needs of my family, with enough leftover to be an extravagant giver.

If anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. (1 Timothy 5:8)

It is more blessed to give than to receive. (Acts 20:35)

Using my job as a platform to enrich the lives of others.

And Paul went to see them, and because he was of the same trade he stayed with them and worked, for they were tentmakers by trade. (Acts 18:3)

Investing in and ensuring the future success of all my employees.

Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing. (1 Thessalonians 5:11)

I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. (John 15:15)

My Relational Life

Success in my relationships with others means:

Enjoying people for who they are; not for what they can give or do for me.

All things are lawful, but not all things are helpful. All things are lawful, but not all things build up. Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor. (1 Corinthians 10:23-24)

Mending the broken relationships I have with others, even my enemies.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. (Matthew 5:9)

You have heard that it was said, “Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.” But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. (Matthew 5:43-48)

Meeting my wife’s needs so that she never has to look elsewhere.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. (Ephesians 5:25-28)

Raising my kids such that they

- love God

- know right and wrong

- believe they have a purpose

- have high self-esteem and feel loved

- have identified their gifts and abilities

Don't keep on scolding and nagging your children, making them angry and resentful. Rather, bring them up with the loving discipline of the Lord Himself approves, with suggestions and godly advice. (Ephesians 6:4)

Honoring my and my wife’s parents by caring for them in old age, just as they did for us when we were young.

Kindness should begin at home, supporting needy parents. This is something that

pleases God very much. (1 Timothy 5:4)

If you honor your father and mother, yours will be a long life, full of blessing. (Ephesians 6:3)

My Communal Life

Success in my community-involvement means:

Volunteering in my church for at least 5 hours each week.

Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. (Ecclesiastes 4:12)

Always being a mentor and always being mentored.

Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. (Hebrews 13:7)

Adapting the wisdom and love of God to my own period in history.

David served God's purpose in his own generation. (Acts 13:6)

Sharing my faith with those in my sphere of influence.

How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? (Romans 10:14)

Helping others get to the next level in the most important areas of their lives.

Why is it that He gives us these special abilities to do certain things best? It is that God's people will be equipped to do better work for Him, building up the Church, the body of Christ, to a position of strength and maturity.
