Students must bring their notes to the seminar along with a copy of this rubric stapled to the front of the notes. Students then will do a self-assessment immediately following the seminar and turn in this sheet with their notes. / Student did not bring notes to the seminar or the notes were copies or notes that were substantially identical to those of another student’s notes. / Student brought a copy of the article to the seminar with some underlining but little in the way of notes or notes that were hastily prepared and disorganized. / Student came to seminar with both copies of the works and original, well organized and carefully prepared notes with attached rubric with the top portion (name and topic) filled out. / Student came exceptionally well prepared producing copious and relevant notes and/or annotated copies of the article highlighting relevant passages that proved useful in the seminar. Also provided evidence of additional reading beyond the assigned article
Demonstrated Leadership / Student sat silently through the seminar or proved a negative or distracting influence by getting off topic or inhibiting the discussion via constant interruptions, personal attacks, or other distracting behavior / Student made a number of relevant comments, but did not respond to other students’ comments or questions in the course of the discussion. Some comments may have been repetitive of other student comments. / Student contributed to the discussion by making original comments, asking relevant questions of other students and responding to other student comments and questions. / Student showed exceptional leadership by posing relevant questions, responding to and encouraging all members to participate and building on what others were saying without dominating the discussion.
Demonstrated Content Knowledge / Student sat silently and did not participate or produce any relevant notes or demonstrated ignorance of economic concepts. / Student notes and performance demonstrated a superficial understanding of the economic concepts. / Student demonstrated a generally correct understanding of economic concepts addressed by seminar topic and assigned articles. / Student was able to demonstrate a deep and thorough understanding of the economic concepts and apply them to the articles.
