PROPOSED RUNNING ADVENTURE TO SCOTLAND AUGUST – SEPTEMBER 2012

I recently spent some time in Scotland, specifically on the Island of Cumbrae which sits in the Clyde and is less than an hour’s drive from Glasgow.

This place, the town on the island is called Millport, is very special to me as I have been a regular visitor there for all of my life.

On this visit one of the locals told me of a Round the Island running race which always takes place one week either before or after the Glasgow Half Marathon.

When I heard this my ears were well and truly up and I have researched this and it is all true. The Glasgow Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 2nd September 2012 and being a ”big city race” generally has a field of about 23000. A week later on September 9th is the Round the Island 10.25 mile race with a field limited to 200 (last year they had 70).

My immediate thoughts were, I’m up for that ,and then I thought a little bit further a realized what a fantastic adventure it would be if a group of VOB members went and did this together.

It won’t be cheap, probably around R15 -20000 when all is done and dusted.

If one is going to spend that amount of money there would have to be another focus apart from running and what I am proposing is a 14 day holiday which would take in a bit of sightseeing of Scotland, Edinburgh, Loch Ness and the likes as well a few days on the island itself.

Depending on the chosen airline and route there is also the possibility of a day or two in London.
