Senior National Events Fundraiser
Responsible to:Head of Community and Events Fundraising
Payscale:30 - 34
Description of Role
To manage a variety of projects in the Community and Events Fundraising team, including the ownership of the Virgin Money London Marathon which is our biggest income generator. You will be responsible for the planning and delivery of specific events which includes budgetary management and you will be expected to balance a varied and complex workload.
Specific Responsibilities
1.Responsibilities
1.1To lead on the Virgin Money London Marathon project which requires management of over 500 participants per year and is currently Sense’s most successful event
1.2To build on and develop the success of the Virgin Money London Marathon project ensuring that all income opportunities are maximised and each participant receives the highest level of customer service
1.3To successfully manage various other projects in the National Events programme ensuring they achieve financial targets, in order to generate net income and ensure their continued success into the future
1.4To contribute to the development and growth of Sense’s mass participation event to ensure it becomes a successful and profitable income stream
1.5To lead on developing and growing the open running events portfolio, establishing it as a reliable income stream as well as securing Sense’s reputation as a key running charity
1.6To lead on the research, identification and application for all COTY and official charity opportunities
1.7To support all cross team working activities particularly with Community Fundraising
1.8To play an active role in events strategy and planning meetings, contributing viable and carefully evaluated ideas and opportunities
1.9To take the lead on all budget setting, monitoring and analysis for all relevant events
1.10To be directly responsible for recruiting, administrating and nurturing all participants for specific events and supporting other colleagues with this, as required
1.11To support each individual participant in order to maximise net income, encourage repeat participation and ensure the projects’ success
1.12To lead on the development of all marketing, promotional and communication plans for events and ensure these are fully implemented and adhered to
1.13To update and develop website content and ensuring that all forms of web and new media channels are taken advantage of
1.14To be responsible for the supervision of temporary staff and volunteers as required
1.15To attend and assist at events wherever necessary, including UK travel

Education and TrainingEssential Criteria / Desirable Criteria
Educated to degree standard or equivalent experience / Degree in relevant discipline e.g. event management, fundraising etc.
Member of the Institute of Fundraising
Achievements and Experience
Essential Criteria / Desirable Criteria
Extensive experience of successful events fundraising / Preferably in sporting or mass participation events
Experience of managing a variety of fundraising events with large volumes of participants / Preferably the Virgin Money London Marathon
Demonstrable experience of budgeting and considerable involvement in strategic event planning / Demonstrable experience of managing volunteers both in the office and at events
Proven experience in evaluating current events, as well as evaluating new event fundraising opportunities
Excellent organisational and administrative skills with an ability to prioritise, plan and manage a complex and varied workload
Knowledge of database management
systems / Preferably Raiser’s Edge
Strong marketing knowledge with experience of writing marketing and publicity material for a range of events and audiences
Excellent networking and interpersonal skills with the maturity and ability to communicate with a wide range of supporters, colleagues, supplier etc.
A willingness to travel in the UK and to attend and assist at events during evenings and weekends
