Music and Dance
You have been given the mission to research the music and/or dance of your South American culture. When you are looking at the music you can look at:
· Traditional music from the country
· Popular artists in the country (that come directly from the country, not just those who are popular)
If you look into the dance of the country you must look at traditional and folkloric dances that were developed in the country.
Below you will find your task and what is required of you:
Step 1:
a. Research the music and/or dance of your country. Find at least three dances or music styles to focus your research on
Step 2:
a. Research your particular topic on the internet or use library resources. You must research the history of the dances/music, what part of the country it came from, and whether or not it is still popular
b. Create an on-going bibliography of your research. You must not only keep a work cited page but also print out all of the research
Step 3:
a. Write a 3-5 page research paper in which you discuss your topic. Look back to step 2 to look at what you are writing about
Step 4:
a. Create a c.d. in which you demonstrate the music from your country (the three you researched). You can choose to sing/play this music yourself or you can find music via the internet. If you are researching the dance you will demonstrate the dances you have researched. You can dance them yourselves in class, videotape yourselves dancing, or bring in a video of people performing the dance.
Within each group each person must take on a certain role. Aside from these roles everyone in the group will contribute with research and participation. You will fill out a group evaluation form at the end and part of your grade will be determined from this.
Within your group, the following roles must be represented:
1. Computer Genius – This person will make sure that each deadline is met and that Sra. Haffey has received all of the work needed on each deadline date. The “deadline work” must be emailed to Sra. Haffey on the dates listed below. If you know you will be absent for one of the deadlines make sure to tell your group mates because for each deadline missed (even one day and even if the person is sick) points will be deducted.
2. Record Keeper – You will keep your file updated. All of your research must be backed up with a “hard copy” (printed copy) of the source from the internet. It is your job to make sure all of the copies are in the file
3. Resource Worker – It is your job to make sure the bibliography is current. All information taken from the internet, book, encyclopedia, etc. must be included on your groups bibliography. You will work with the record keeper to make sure that each piece represented in the bibliography is represented with a “hard copy” in the file.
4. Creative Geniuses (2) – It is your job to create a poster that will be displayed on the final due date of your project. This poster will tell people the country you have researched and things about your topic. Your poster needs to be colorful and creative.
