Week 1 /
- Welcome new employee (phone, email, or in-person)
- Set a time for first meeting
- Provide a campus tour
- Direct Mentee to new staff resources (available on CTL website)
Week 2 /
- Hold first meeting with mentee and set meeting schedule
- Complete and sign Mentor Agreement Form
- Discuss important college information/procedures (i.e. mission, vision, values, etc.)
- Discuss the Confidentiality Check Sheet
- Discuss the mentee’s expectations of the mentoring relationship
- Begin discussion of mentee learning goals
Week 3 /
- Continue discussion with mentee about learning goals
- Ask a variety of questions to gauge mentee’s needs
- Identify activities for mentee to participate (i.e. campus events, professional development activities. etc.)
- Create networking opportunities – put mentee in touch with other campus contacts
Week 4 /
- Meet/communicate with mentee (discuss learning goals, experiences, needs)
- Check in with mentee about assumptions for what is going on
- Share stories and provide living examples
Month 2 /
- Meet/communicate with mentee (discuss learning goals, experiences, needs)
- Keep the mentoring partnership interesting by participating in activities with your mentee or providing your mentee with information related to personal interests
Month 3 /
- Meet/communicate with mentee (discuss learning goals, experiences, needs, etc.)
- Engage in evaluation of the mentorship at the end
- Discuss lessons learned
- Check for unanswered questions
- Explore future directions: Redefine the relationship – moving on or continuing
