School Sports Premium 2017-18 (WORKING DOCUMENT)

Aims:
  • To improve and develop children’s knowledge, skills and understanding in gymnastics, dance and games
  • To improve and develop staff confidence and competence in teaching gymnastics and dance.
  • To increase the children’s access and pariticpation to quality PE & games (inc. completion) outside the teaching day
  • To increase the range of sporting activities and increase % participation in competitive sport (link to Inclusion objectives).

  1. Audit current provision and staff strengths and areas for development – looking for changing Sports Premium for 2018.
/ July 2017 / A clear understanding of staff strengths and areas for further development which can then, in conjunction with the sports partnership, can be used to plan half termly ‘expert’ lessons – a different class per half term.

  1. In conjunction with the Pennine Sports Partnership appoint appropriate staff to teach a series of lessons on a particular area of PE for staff to observe and teach together
(Half a day per week = £3240)
(Annual Fee = £896) / Sept 2017-July 2018 / Teaching staff at Upperthong have an improved understanding of how to develop children’s knowledge, skills and understanding through a series of PE lessons.
Obtain a bank of teaching resources to use in the future.
Teaching staff to have greater confidence when teaching dance and gymnastics.
Children at Upperthong have improved knowledge, skills and understanding in particular areas of PE.
  1. In conjunction with the Pennine Partnership appoint a play worker to work 3 lunchtimes each week.
(3 times a week – 1 term - £975)
(To look at in December – impact of how many children are accessing this) / Sept 2017-Dec 18 / Children at Upperthong have access to an increased level of organised sporting activity at lunchtime.
Children to have the opportunity to take part in fun activities at lunch timeWhile also developing skills.
  1. In conjunction with the appointed sports staff attendextra curricular sport activities representing the school.
(Year 4 sports barn coach = £220) / Sept 2017- July 2018 / Children at Upperthong have access to an increased level of organised sporting activity through participation in extra curricular activity (inc. competition). This is to cover out of school competitions and cover for the PLT to look at assessment.
  1. Ensure that Sports Partnership Money is being spend effectively and that this is being measured.
Monitoring extra curricular activities.
Look at teaching of PE and ensure that effective teaching and childrens’ activity is high.

6 x £100 = £600) / Sept 2016 – July 2017 / Teaching Staff have a greater understanding of assessment and (along with the PLT) will improve their judgements and experience. PLT to use this time to observe, look at assessments and speak to class teachers. Assess schemes of work in being used in school and look for update and improvements.
Ensure all children have access and opportunity for sporting extracurricular activities.
  1. KS1 children to have access to Cycling skills and Gross motor skills through Balanceability. Year 6 children to access to Cycling safety though Bikeability
(Balanceability - £450)
(Bikeability – Government Funded – possible need money to fund additional places – to look into) / October 2017 / KS1 children to improve gross motor skills through balancing and pushing on bike. Also, children to increase confidence while riding a bike. Year 6 to obtain a Bikeability certificate to state that they completed a course about safety on a bike on a road.

(Curriculum time for JW) / Sept – Dec 2017 / This is to ensure that quality first teach is done in all PE lesson and that children have access to outstanding PE teaching. Look at impact in
  1. To buy Maths of the Day, a reasoning and problem solving resource that is used for Active Learning in Maths (links with PE and active learners)
(£495) / Sept 2017 / To improve reasoning and problem solving through active learning. Look at impact of activity and physical activity and the contribution to the 30minutes per day (link with Maths Co-ordinator) - to look to use as a whole school programme.
  1. Intervention for children who struggle to access PE – overweight, underweight.
(playleaders training – speak to Fay)
(possible CPD opportunities) / Jan 2018 – July 2018 / To use playleaders to give opportunities for these children. Discuss with staff about which children could use this as access. Discuss with parents’ about the children who we would like to be involved. I would like to see an increased love of PE but also a more active child outside of school and during break times (research how to show this impact)
  1. To discuss with other schools about how they have spent/are spending their money – ideas. (Pyramid schools’ PLT)

/ Sept 2017 – July 2018 / To discuss with JBS about Healthy schools and what we can do to earn awards and improve the childrens’ access to information.
  1. Look for workshops and new sporting opportunities based on childrens’ suggestions.
(£1000 approx) / Spring/Summer 2018 / To give opportunities to all children to access new sporting activies, giving them links to local sport clubs.
Possible look into Gold Sportsmark award.
  1. Look at Rising Stars - Champions as a whole school teaching programme for PE.
Use for HA children during PE lessons.
(£600 if bought) / Autumn / To look at this scheme and discuss with Curriculum Team if this could be used as an effective teaching method – to look to use as a whole school programme – especially for children who are high ability or have been identified by teacher, previous teacher and Fay.
