The School Board of the Parish of Lafayette, State of Louisiana, met in regular session at its meeting place, the Lafayette Parish School Board Administrative Building, Board Room, Lafayette, Louisiana, on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 5:30 P.M. pursuant to notice given in writing to every member.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Shelton J. Cobb, President; Hunter Beasley, Vice-President; Tommy Angelle, Gregory Awbrey, Mark Babineaux, Kermit Bouillion, Tehmi Chassion, Mark Cockerham and Rae Trahan, Board Members; Dr. Pat Cooper, Secretary-Treasurer/Superintendent
MEMBERS ABSENT: None
I. MEETING OPENINGS
The meeting was called to order by Beasley and opened with a prayer by Cockerham. Trahan led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.
OPENING COMMENTS
Cobb informed the Board that positive things were happening at Boucher Elementary. The school competed for the first time in Social Studies and have a Beta Club. He said Carencro High School students had placed first in the state beef primary contest, and wanted everyone to know that there are a lot of good things going on in our schools. Mr. Cobb congratulated Mr. Roebuck, Principal of Carencro High and Mrs. Samec, Principal of Boucher Elementary on their achievements.
Angelle thanked Superintendent Cooper, Chief Financial Officer Guidry and other staff for a wonderful audit report. He asked Mr. Guidry to provide the Board with a six month total from July-December of 2013 a comparative analysis of budget to actual of this fiscal year.
Superintendent Cooper acknowledged the bus tragedy and commended Bradley Cruice, Director of Health and Wellness, the crisis team and also Lafayette High for reacting quickly in taking care of the young men and their parents. Secondly, Dr. Cooper reported LPSS test scores are improving and has no doubts we will achieve as an “A” school district. He informed the Board that juvenile crime is down by 18% and believes it is due to the school system keeping kids in school, and thanked the teachers, principals and Health and Wellness team for their efforts.

Kyle Bordelon, Director of Planning and Facilities presented the Status Report for Construction Fund 2012 Limited Tax Bond Fund.
2. LPSS 2014-15 and 2015-16 School Year Calendars
Karen Williams, Director of Academics presented the LPSS School Calendars for 2014-15 and 2015-16. She explained the process that was used in creating the school calendars.
Trahan asked that representatives of the teacher organizations be included from the beginning of the process.
3. LPSS 2015-16 Administrative Calendar
Karen Williams, Director of Academics presented the LPSS Administrative Calendar for 2015-16.

WHEREAS, February 1-28, 2014, has been designated Career and Technical Education Month by the Association for Career and Technical Education; and,
WHEREAS, the theme for Career and Technical Education Month is “Celebrate CTE Superheroes”: and,
WHEREAS, profound economic and technological changes in our society are rapidly reflected in the structure and nature of work, thereby placing new and additional responsibilities on our educational system; and,
WHEREAS, career and technical education provides Americans with a school-to-careers connection and is the backbone of a strong, well-educated workforce, which fosters productivity in Louisiana business and industry, as well as the nation, and contributes to America’s leadership in the international marketplace; and,
WHEREAS, the ever increasing cooperative efforts of career and technical educators, business and industry stimulate growth and vitality of our local and state economy and that of the entire nation by preparing graduates for career fields forecast to experience the largest and fastest growth in the next decade; now,

“NATIONAL SCHOOL BREAKFAST WEEK AND NATIONAL NUTRITION MONTH”
WHEREAS, National School Breakfast Week and National Nutrition Month combined has admirably served our nation for more than 40 years; and,
WHEREAS, all the programs are dedicated to the health and well-being of our nation’s children; and,
WHEREAS, food is the substance by which life is sustained and learning abilities in and out of the classroom increase substantially; and,
