Bejo Zaden convinced of increasing use of organic seed
The Dutch vegetable-breeding company Bejo Zaden will be presenting its expanding range of organic varieties at the BioFach in Neurenberg. From tasty carrots to mildew-resistant onions, there are more than 30 species in their range. “We are convinced that more organic growers will use organic seed in the future.” states Bram Weijland, coordinator of Bejo’s organic affairs, and who is responding to this development with a presentation at 2 pm on Wednesday 13 February during the BioFach Forum.
Bejo's range of organic varieties has continuously expanded over the years. The company’s present organic portfolio comprises of more than 140 varieties from over 30 different vegetable crops. "Our range of organic varieties is constantly growing. This year we have expanded it with a few new brassica varieties, such as the Chinese cabbage Emiko and the white cabbage variety Typhoon. We are convinced that the demand for organic seed will grow in the years to come. The introduction of our mildew-resistant onion variety Hylander was a great success. This year we are going to start selling the organic Hylander seed in northern Europe,” says Bart Kuin, Bejo’s area manager for Western Europe.

Small amounts of organic seed can be ordered online at www.bejo.com/webshop . On the website, visitors are directed to their own country’s webshop , where they will find a specially selected range of varieties arranged according to their sowing/growing period.
The webshop is currently online for ten European countries. It has been specially designed for small-scale professional organic growers, who can easily place orders there 24 hours a day. The seed is supplied from stock, so it will reach its destination quickly. The high-quality seeds are EU-certified and meet Bejo’s strict, high quality standards.
