MODULE 1: PICK AND PLACE FEEDING

The material feeding system, as shown below, delivers valve bodies to the manufacturing process. The valve bodies are stacked in a magazine. A feeding cylinder 1A, equipped with hall-effect sensors on either end of the stroke (1B1, 1B2), is used to push a valve body out to the pick-up position.

The feeder also includes a photoelectric part presence sensor B1 to detect when there are no more parts available. If there are no parts in the magazine, the feeder will not extend.

After receiving a start signal, the PLC energizes solenoid 1M1 and the feed cylinder 1A extends, pushing a valve body from the magazine. When the feed cylinder has fully extended, it actuates sensor 1B2.

The pick-up cylinder 3A extends (downward movement). When the pick-up cylinder has fully extended, it actuates sensor 3B2.

This causes the vacuum gripper 2A, which is installed on the pick and place unit, to activate. When the vacuum switch 2P1 closes, indicating that the valve body is grasped, the PLC energizes the solenoid 3M2, causing the pick-up cylinder to retract.

Once fully retracted, the sensor 3B1 is actuated, causing the linear traverse cylinder 4A (rodless cylinder) to extend. When the linear traverse cylinder 4A is fully extended, it actuates sensor 4B2. The pick-up cylinder extends towards the drop-off point.

When the pick-up cylinder has reached the fully extended position, the vacuum is switched off and the part is released. After the vacuum is switched off, the pick-up cylinder returns to its initial position. Once fully retracted, the linear traverse cylinder moves towards the pick-up point and the cycle is ended.

The module must be in some pre-determined state before any sequence may take place. This will be a state in which all cylinders are fully retracted and valve bodies are present. If either of these conditions are not present, the module may even provide an alarm light.
