Wilton Manors Elementary

SAC/PTA Meeting

11/19/2015

Meeting called to order by Jamie Ferguson @ 6:04pm.

Minutes taken by recording secretary: Jamie Allwein

SAC/Jamie Ferguson:

She welcomed everyone.

Principal’s Report/Holtz:

Aftercare:

BASH does not generate any money for the school. We could have a school run aftercare and we could profit from it. Mrs. Holtz is not ready to do that this year, but will certainly talk about it. She is comfortable keeping the City of Wilton Manors program here. There will be an open discussion throughout the year about this.

Computers are coming and they will be distributed just before winter break.

Virginia Shuman Young just spent $130,000 for a new playground that has mats. Mrs. Holtz talked to the principal about how they were able to get of the sand. We are looking into this for WME. We have $100,000 coming to us next year. We will continue discussing this as the year goes on. Suggestions were given for fundraiser suggestions.

?Are we considering purchasing new Newsroom equipment? As a committee, we will look into what is best needed here at school. Nothing is off the table for discussion.

SAC ACCREDITATION TRAINING

By Melissa Holtz - powerpoint

SIP/Jamie Ferguson:

*We will be looking at our SIP (School Improvement Plan) at our next meeting. It is the document that drives the education here at WMES.

*The school wide Vocabulary parade is next week on Tuesday, November 24. It is a wonderful day. All parents are welcome.

*The next spirit assemble is 12/4 at 9:00am.

*The Holiday Show will be held in the cafeteria on Dec. 17 at 6:00pm.

PYP Update/Mrs. Holtz:

*Ms. Goldsmith is at the Magnet Showcase tonight at Piper High School.

*The window to apply for Magnet Schools opens Dec. 13. We will be filling 3Magnet K classes and some first graders will be accepted.

*Our IB visit was very successful

Science needs improving. IB states that all Science standards need to be in an inquiry based planner. We have stated that we need to work on Science in our self study. The team loved our literacy program. The parents said that the luncheon with the team was like a love fest.

It appears that the visit was great. They said that Ms. Goldsmith knows lots of things, but everyone should know more than they do.

Title 1/ Ms. Blue:

There is a Title 1 parent training at Wilton Manors at 7:00pm. At 6:30 food is served and they start the informational meeting at 7:00. All parents are welcome. Childcare will be provided.

Other Info:

Miss Allwein invited everyone to get on the bus for a Rally in Tally on Jan. 14, 2016. We are traveling to Tallahassee to listen to speakers about public education and let the state government know how we feel about what is going on in our schools. The bus ride is free and we will leave at midnight of the 14th. Let Miss Allwein know if you are interested.

SAC Meeting was adjourned at 6:35pm

PTA President’s report/Fred:

*The treasury report was given.

*Charleston Wrap brought in about $6,000.

That was a lot of work for that money. If we asked every family for $10 we could make that without doing anything.

*We gave the Kawanis $500 for their helping hands project.

*Field day is coming the week of Dec. 7.

*Many suggestions for fundraising were discussed.

Adjourned meeting at 6:45.
